Call of booty: Channel 4 computer game featuring condom-wearing soldiers shooting sperm wins Bafta

A cheeky Channel 4 computer game which features soldiers wearing condom hats, barking out references to genitalia and firing lasers at sperm has won a Bafta despite being banned by Xbox.
The cartoon-style game called Privates, which is designed to teach teenagers about sexually transmitted diseases, won the children's award in the secondary school education category.
Developer Dan Marshall, of Size Five Games in Norbiton, who was commissioned by Channel 4 to build the game said: 'I was completely and utterly gobsmacked.

'I had managed to convince myself there was no chance Privates would win so when it did I was simply dumbfounded.'



Privates held off two BBC learning games, called Love Hurts and Wanna Be a Rockstar, as well as a Jamie Oliver Dream School-linked competition to find the country's best teachers.

The developer joined Peppa Pig, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, and Newsround on the winner's podium.
Mr Marshall stumbled through his acceptance speech at the ceremony watched by John Barnes, Warwick Davis and Nigel Planer.
Despite being banned by Microsoft Xbox 360 due to its sexual content, gamers can download the game onto the PCs for free.

Mr Marshall said: 'The original design document broke a vast number of Xbox's rules.
'I sent a copy to the very nice people at Xbox, who loved it, but decided that the rules needed to hold steady.'
Jo Twist, of Channel 4 Education, which commissioned the game as a sex education tool, said: 'It shows you don't have to be a huge developer to get such a commission or awards win. You just have to be good.'
A spokesman from Brook, a national sex and contraception advice charity for teenagers, said: 'It's really important to raise awareness of sexual health issues and we look forward to seeing young people's feedback on the game.'
The next game from Size Five Games, The Swindle, is sure to gain equal attention as gamers take on the role of cyber crooks breaking into a facility to illicitly hack computers.
