Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight is coming to Nintendo Switch.
In addition to the main game heading to the new platform, Yacht Club confirmed that upcoming new campaign Specter of Torment will also be headed to Switch.
ut that’s just one part of the new plan for Shovel Knight moving forward. Yacht Club is now referring to Shovel Knight as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, an all-inclusive title for the overall game. Anyone who currently owns Shovel Knight will now automatically own Treasure Trove, which will receive upcoming campaigns and updates for free.
However, players will now also have new a la carte options for purchasing the various campaigns for Shovel Knight individually as standalone games on PS4, Xbox One, PC, or Switch.
The original game’s campaign will now be known be known as Shovel of Hope. Beyond that original campaign, players can buy Plague of Shadows, the Plague Knight campaign that was released last year, and Specter of Torment, the upcoming campaign featuring Specter Knight.
Later in 2017, Yacht Club also plans to release yet another campaign, this time focusing on King Knight. A four-player Battle Mode is also on the way, for all platforms other than 3DS and Vita (since it offers local multiplayer only). Since these updates will be included, Yacht Club will be raising the overall price of Treasure Trove beginning in the Spring.
At the same time as Specter of Torment, Yacht Club will also release Body Swap mode, which allows you to switch the gender of Shovel Knight or Shield Knight. The two player co-op mode (which previously required an amiibo to unlock and was Wii U exclusive) is also coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC as a free update.
Yacht Club Games has plenty of more Shovel Knight content to come, and the developer is now finally ready to share when the King of Cards, Showdown, and more are coming.
IGN can exclusively reveal that Shovel Knight: King of Cards, the third and final story-based expansion, will be released on April 9, 2019. Shovel Knight Showdown, previously revealed earlier this week by IGN, will also be released on April 9.
Yes, both to-be released expansions are debuting on the same day, because Yacht Club has also announced a physical version of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove — the complete collection of Shovel Knight and all of its expansions, will see a physical, retail release on April 9, 2019 in both North America and Europe for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
The complete Treasure Trove collection will cost $39.99 — however, you can still by Treasure Trove digitally for its current price of $24.99, and you'll receive the additional upcoming content at no extra charge. King of Cards and Showdown will also be available separately.
Preorders are now available at Amazon and Gamestop.
That same day, April 9, 2019, will also see the release of the previously announced amiibo three-pack featuring Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight, which Yacht Club first revealed at PAX West 2017.
Treasure Trove, in its final form next year, will include Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope (the original campaign), Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows (Plague Knight's campaign), Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment (Specter Knight's campaign), Shovel Knight: King of Cards (King Knight's campaign), and Shovel Knight Showdown.
