Go on, have a good hard look at the screenshot on this page -- that's the in-game model, son. We were as hesitant to get excited for X-Men Origins: Wolverine as you probably are going into it, but things are shaping up surprisingly well (and incredibly violently) over at Raven Software (the same studio that worked on the X-Men Legends games and Marvel Ultimate Alliance).
Ninja Gaiden meets Hugh Jackman? It's not out of the realm of possibility. In our January issue of EGM, we tell you all about real-time in-game healing, the simple satisfactions of an elegantly accessible combat system, a sweet boss fight against the very first Sentinel robot prototype, and lots more. We also chat with Raven about a few of Origins' influences, from God of War to Super Smash Bros., a new approach to seamless cinematic in-game cut-scenes that bridge bits of gameplay, and even a few things from the cutting floor (a skeletal Wolvie in a nuclear blast?). You know who loves getting the new issue of EGM in the mail even more than you? The people who make it -- us! Every month about a week before subscribers get it, a box of fancy new EGMs arrives in Greg Ford's office. Nearby folk grab a copy, and folk next to them take notice, and it spreads like wildfire. All work grinds to a halt while everyone relishes that fancy new magazine smell and finally seeing the fruits of their labor in print.

Activision Unleashes New Details On X-Men Origins: Wolverine

December 9, 2008 - Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) has released new details on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, whose titular hero is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time. The video game, scheduled for release in May 2009, coincides with the global debut of Twentieth Century Fox's release of its feature film, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which is also based on the famous Marvel character.

From the award-winning studio Raven Software, the video game enlists players to experience the tormented origins of Wolverine, from his escape of the Weapon X facility to the jungles of Africa and beyond. The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system, Windows PC , Wii home video game system, Nintendo DS, PlayStation2 computer entertainment system and PSP (PlayStationPortable) system, and is not yet rated by the ESRB.

"We have an amazing team with Raven Studios at the helm, creating what will undoubtedly be the quintessential, true-to-character Wolverine video game experience that fans have been craving," said Rob Kostich, vice president, global brand management, Activision Publishing, Inc. "X-Men Origins: Wolverine amps up the action by bringing to life Wolverine's wholly unique skills such as his brute strength, regenerative mutant abilities, and indestructible adamantium claws and skeleton in an immersive experience that is fitting to one of the most enduring and popular characters of all time."

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is an epic action-adventure featuring a true-to-character Wolverine gameplay experience that takes gamers through and beyond the movie's storyline. Set in a variety of vivid real-world locales, the title challenges players to hone their animal instinct as they uncover hidden dangers, hunt and destroy enemies, and take on seemingly insurmountable situations while discovering the truth about Wolverine's tragic past. With razor-sharp adamantium claws unsheathed, the future X-Man enacts lightning-quick combat, evasive maneuvers, in-depth combo attacks, and an array of brutal finishing moves. Wolverine doesn't just deliver massive damage, either – he also takes it, thanks to his mutant regenerative power that heals him in real time right before the player's eyes.

The title is in development by Raven Studios and Amaze Entertainment.

The unlockable costumes are the Classic Blue and Yellow, the Brown and Tan, and the black X-Force uniform.

So we've got this pretty cool system where you find "action figures" hidden throughout the levels. Each action figure is dressed in one of the unlockable costumes, once you've found enough of each type you unlock a special challenge map. In this challenge map you must fight a Wolverine dressed up in the uniform you are trying to unlock! So it's you against a Wolverine with all the moves and powers you have in a bloody beat down, just ripping each other apart. If you can beat the Wolverine, then you unlock the costume.
