Catalunya Circuit Coming to Gran Turismo Sport

When Polyphony Digital released the schedule for the FIA GT Championship EMEA Regional Finals, we suspected a new track would be revealed at the event — just as the Austrian World Tour introduced Fuji Speedway.
The competitors got a sneak preview of the new track at the event last night and it has now leaked: it’s Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a real-world track that will be entirely new to the GT series.
The 4.655 km (2.892 mi), Grade-1 FIA circuit is one of the most famous in Spain and has hosted the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix since it was constructed in 1991. It is particularly well-known among the F1 community as a testing and development track, so it is frequently a place we see new cars during the off-season.

This will be the 12th real-world circuit to arrive in GT Sport, and we can confirm it will be arriving in the game’s next update.
We will get our first look at the track on the FIA GT Championship EMEA Regional Finals live stream broadcast on Saturday, so be sure to tune in for the first gameplay footage.

GT Sport’s Next Content Update Arrives November 6

Despite all the non-stop action of the FIA-Certified GT Sport Online Championship regional finals, Polyphony Digital is still finding time to update the game.
With his now-traditional Twitter post, Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed the date of the next update: November 6.

Thanks to the recent glut of GT Sport live events, we already know a good deal about the content coming next week. The Asian final revealed the Subaru Impreza 22B STI, and the European final featured the Maserati Gran Turismo S. Both seem to appear in the nine cars in Yamauchi’s silhouette image — although the other seven are very much a matter of speculation for now.
The update should also include the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Like the Maserati, this featured in the European final and was even the location for the final race.
As usual, there’ll likely be new events in GT League for players to get their teeth into, along with fixes for any issues that emerged from the last update. We’re also likely to see a new Circuit Experience, for the Fuji Speedway track from September’s content update.
Between now and then there’ll be one more live event: the Americas final. GTPlanet will be live on the ground throughout the competition in Las Vegas, so stay tuned for any more content reveals.

Gran Turismo Sport Will Get Formula E Cars According to Kazunori Yamauchi

Gran Turismo Sport could be gaining another racing category in the near future. According to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, Formula E is on the way.
The news comes by way of Porsche. More specifically, it’s from when Yamauchi-san was on hand in Japan recently to announce GT Sport would be the platform for Porsche Japan’s 2019 Esports competition.
During the event, Yamauchi and Porsche Japan’s Toshiyki Shimegi sat down with Famitsu to discuss the companies’ project. Famitsu brought up Porsche’s 2019 entry into Formula E, and how the German marque will build awareness. Shimegi talks about an increased focus on the virtual world, which naturally leads to Famitsu’s next question, posed to Yamauchi: is he thinking of a Formula E appearance in GT Sport?
In the (translated) answer, Yamauchi confirms that he’s already had discussions with Formula E. Indeed, the Polyphony head says “no doubt”, though we do want to remind readers that this is via Google Translate, not Translator-san, so it is possible there are mistranslations peppering the article. Yamauchi-san also points out that GT Sport already plays host to old and new cars alike. It’s true: over the last year of updates, ’60s-era Le Mans racers and Lewis Hamilton’s 2017 championship-winning F1 Merc have all joined the lineup.
Currently, Formula E exists in the virtual realm in a few different titles. Both rFactor 2 and Forza Motorsport 7 feature earlier models, while mobile title Real Racing 3 features the great-looking current car shown up top.
Whether it’s Porsche’s new racer — which just showed up at a semi-public event last weekend — another marque’s, or multiple teams, we’re looking forward to seeing them buzz along any of the tracks in GT Sport. And hey, the game just received a new road course, too…
