hello all I am new to Mac
I am planning to get a MacBook for school
people say it's good for design software and i am gonna take design next school year
do I need Mac Book or MacBook PRO?
how is it better than Windows in design?

other than schoolwork, is it good for a family to use?

btw i saw an ad on apple.com, when u get a MacBook you get a iPod free (for students), is it also true in HK? thanks a lot

Macbook Pro definitely allows you to run more sufficiently in terms of the pro apps out there, and I mean pro art softwares like the Adobe CS3. Especially with the new Macbook Pro that just got updated, before you can't quite see a huge difference between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro, now there is a sharp line between them.

It's better than Windows because it lets you focus on design instead of living through the craps that come with Windows.

It's perfect for family usages, iLife, which would come pre-installed on all Macs, allows you to do amazing stuff very easily.

and I am a total newbie and still trying learn photoshop, prodesktop etc. do I really need Pro?

You can buy Macbook or Macbook Pro depends on your budget. If you need to use 3D Graphic software or play 3D game, you may buy Macbook Pro. Otherwise, Macbook with more RAM is enough for 2D graphic/basic 3D graphic and office software.

The problem with that is the resolution for the Macbook is too low, the screens are too small, sure you may run them, but in a very limited user environment.
