Double Dragon Goes Portable

Only one thing can be better than beating up on large muscular bald guys using the ancient Sou-Setsu-Ken. That's using Sou-Setsu-Ken to beat up big bald guys on the go.

Atlus USA Announced today that they will be releasing the Arcade Classic Double Dragon for the Gameboy Advance. This new enhanced version will be feature stages, modes, techniques, and enemies not seen in the original.

A global nucleur war had left the world devastated and subject to the will or roving gangs. The Shadow Warriors have emerged as a conglomerate of smaller gangs to take control of the city. As with all very evil guys they crave more power. Specifically, the awesome power of Sou-Setsu-Ken.

The Shadow Warriors kidnap the girlfriend of Billy Lee in order to exchange her for the Secret Book of Sou-Setsu-Ken. The Lee brothers, Billy and his Twin brother Jimmy set out to do what they do best, beat people up.

Atlus is not simply porting this classic to the GBA, but spciing it up as well. Their will be new game modes such as a two player cooperative mode, vs. mode, and a one player mode that allows you to control both brothers with the aid of the computer.

If none of the regular game modes, new stages, new bosses, new weapons, and new moves satiate your butt-kicking appetite, there is the Double Dragon Dojo Survival Mode. You can spend countless hours fighting the unending swarms of baddies all by your lonesome or a with friend.

All this leads to one simple question, Are you a bad enough dude to save the President?

Atlus brings River City Ransom EX to the GBA!

Atlus revealed today as part of their E3 exhibition that they will be publishing an enhanced version of the Nintendo Entertainment System cult classic, River City Ransom, on the Game Boy Advance.

River City Ransom EX, as it's called, pits Alex and Ryan, two high school students, against Slick, the most powerful gang leader in River City. With his group of nasty students and gang bosses, Slick has literally abducted the City's high school and put it up for ransom. The two heroic students have to battle through tough gangs to get to Slick and stop his devious plan.

River City Ransom EX will include two modes: a Story Mode, which is playable by one or two players cooperatively, and a 2-player Battle Mode. A neat gimmick included, though perhaps unrealistic for most gamers, is to hook up two GBAs; one will let the player progress through the game while the other displays a status screen to indicate how the characters are doing. Buying new items and weapons will allow people to customize the characters in-game, and after playing with a friend in Story Mode or Battle Mode, you can create computer-controller AI characters to mimick their style. Then, these foes can be transferred across a link cable so your friends can test their mettle against them.

Atlus hasn't detailed any release information for River City Ransom EX yet, but we'll let you know as soon as it does. This game sounds like it could be an absolute blast, and we'll be following it closely. Check back for more soon.
