July 01, 2004 - Konami of Europe has announced Pro Evolution Soccer 4, the latest entry in their acclaimed football (er, soccer) franchise. The game is in development for the PC, PlayStation 2, and for the first time in the series' history, the Xbox.

The latest iteration, developed by Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka and a team of football experts at Konami, introduces new moves and tricks to make a rich gaming experience even better. The game features new free kicks and penalties, improved player realism, as well an entirely new dribbling system. The title will also include more club and international teams than ever before.

To show off the game's sharp visuals, we've added a batch of screenshots. Check out the photo-realistic player models and detailed snapshots of action.

Gamers can expect Pro Evolution Soccer 4 to hit Europe in Q4 2004. Stay tuned.

Following Konami of Europe's announcement earlier this year that its next soccer game would be appearing on the Xbox, the company has today confirmed that the predictably named Pro Evolution Soccer 4 will also be released for the PC and PlayStation 2 in Europe toward the end of this year. Developed by Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka and his team at Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 promises to further refine the sublime soccer experience already offered by the series through the introduction of improved controls and a number of all-new features.

Almost every aspect of the series' tried-and-tested control system will be refined. There will be additional on-the-ball moves and tricks, as well as improved dribbling, passing, and crossing techniques. The game's free-kick and penalty systems are also being completely revamped, although no specific information is available at this time. Other promised improvements include more-realistic player likenesses, uniforms that get dirty as matches progress, the introduction of onscreen referees and match officials, and additional team formations.

The series' popular master league career mode will also be much improved and will, for the first time, feature career-ending injuries that will force players to reorganize their team. An all-new "My Best Eleven" feature will also complement the master league mode, allowing players to save the greatest teams they manage to assemble and, presumably, pit them against those of their friends.

No more information on Pro Evolution Soccer 4 has been released at this time, but judging by the screenshots released today, the game will feature accurate player names for the most part, although the uniforms will be generic. We'll bring you more on all three versions of the game as soon as it becomes available.

Konami of Europe today confirmed that it has acquired Dutch, Spanish, and Italian league licenses for Pro Evolution Soccer 4. With the licenses in place, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 will become the first title in the popular soccer series to feature teams wearing their official uniforms, complete with sponsor logos and suchlike.

The licenses announced today apply to 56 of the game's 136 club sides, including the likes of Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Deportivo, Milan, Juventus, and Parma. In addition to club teams, Pro Evolution Soccer will feature more than 50 national sides.

"We are delighted to add three officially licensed leagues to Pro Evolution Soccer 4," said Martin Schneider, director of marketing at Konami of Europe. "Fans of the game have long called for us to implement their favorite teams in their favorite game, and this marks a major step forward in our quest to deliver the most authentic football title around. Adding all clubs from the Dutch, Spanish, and Italian leagues confirms that we are committed to adding more and more authenticity to the series, and Konami of Europe is confident that further deals with other clubs will follow in the near future."

Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC in Europe toward the end of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.

Konami announced today at their Summer BBQ event that they'll be bringing Winning Eleven 8 to the US in the Spring. Unfortunately, they didn't announce which platfroms the game will appear on (Xbox owners, keep your fingers crossed).

Xbox-owning football nuts may be about to get their wildest dreams realised... Well, okay, some of their tamer dreams. But they'll probably be happy, regardless, to hear that Konami has deigned to bless the Xbox version of the forthcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 4 with Xbox Live support.

This news comes to you courtesy of Tom's early-morning frantic dash around the Game Stars Live show in London's ExCeL convention centre, from whence a rushed phonecall was received saying "PES4 has an Xbox Live button in the front end. Inform the men."

As yet, Konami hasn't confirmed what the nature of their Xbox Live functionality will be, but apparently we have every reason to believe that it will feature full-strength online multiplayer, and not just some form of heinous high-score related treachery.

So there you have it. Football fans rejoice! The rest of you... As you were.
