根據遊戲開發者研討會（GDC）新公開的議程，BioWare 屆時將揭露科幻角色扮演遊戲《質量效應》新作品《質量效應 2（Mass Effect 2）》。
GDC 2009 預定 3 月 23 日至 27 日在美國舊金山舉行，BioWare 的首席技術設計師 Dusty Everman 與專案經理 Corey Andruko將發表以《質量效應 2》設計過程為題的演講，詳述新遊戲中製作等級的過程。 不過，由於此項會議是以遊戲研發人為主，外界猜測演講說明內容可能將以闡述技術為主，而避免談到未來遊戲的內容細節；但實際內容為何，則待屆時揭曉。
《質量效應》為 BioWare 史詩級三部曲作品首部曲，此項消息釋出讓不少支持者開心 BioWare 已經著手製作二部曲《質量效應 2》；《質量效應》遊戲讓玩家操控著銀河系的命運，玩家的行動將會影響到銀河系中生物的命運，遊戲採用即時小組戰鬥模式進行，且提供眾多未知的世界讓玩家探索，遊戲也大量採用即時運算出的數位演員來擔任非玩家角色（NPC）、敵人與組隊隊員，這些角色擁有逼真的動作與對話系統，讓玩家在遊戲世界中感受更真實。
另一項特色採用了大量由遊戲引擎即時製作出的數位演員（Digital Actors）來擔任遊戲中的非玩家角色（NPC）、敵人跟可供玩家組隊用的隊員，而且他們將擁有栩栩如生的面孔和逼真的動作，以及一個先進的對話系統。
《質量效應》為 PC/Xbox 360 平台，至於《質量效應 2》則尚未公布相關細節。

話時話BioWare係三隻games同時全力開動緊：Dragon Age: Origins(PC)，Mass Effect 2(XB360, PC)，Star Wars: The Old Republic(PC MMORPG)。以前幫開佢做替工的Osidian都忙緊自己隻Alpha Protocol同另一隻Aliens game。所以可能真係冇餘力去做PS3版。

EA has refused to clarify speculation surrounding what platforms the hotly anticipated sci-fi action RPG Mass Effect 2 will eventually be released on.
In a statement issued to VideoGamer.com, publisher EA said: "There is no information on a PS3 version at this time."
PS3 owners were seemingly left out in the cold when EA officially confirmed Mass Effect 2 yesterday. In the press release the game was listed as "coming to Xbox 360 and PC in early 2010". The press release made no mention of the PlayStation 3.
EA's latest statement is bound to add further fuel to speculation that Mass Effect 2 may eventually come to the PS3. The game may be a timed Xbox 360 and PC exclusive, as we have seen with FPS BioShock. EA is famous for bringing its games to as many platforms as possible.
