Work on Gears of War 3 is already well underway at developer Epic Games, claims a rumour in the latest issue of US mag EGM.
According to the mag the third game, which is surely inevitable after the titanic sales of the first two, will be with us for Christmas 2010. What's more, it'll feature a new "five player co-op experience", which we assume means co-op in the main campaign.
It all sounds like a big fan wishlist at this point, but EGM also claims that Epic has a multiplatform horror game in development, a rumour that's already done the rounds once or twice before and could be likely.
Either way, it's looking like the next few years could be busy for old Epic. It's got to do something with all of that Unreal Engine money, after all...

Gears of War 2が300万本のセールスを達成したニュースを昨日お伝えしたばかりですが、ミリオンヒット確実のこのシリーズに、早くも第3作目の話題が噂されています。
おなじみEGMマガジン最新号の噂コーナーに掲載された情報によると、ホラー系の新作を開発していると言われるEpic GamesのCliffy Bが、2010年秋に向けて、Gears of War 3にも同時に取り掛かっているそうです。なんとこの最新作には、5人同時プレイのCo-opモードが搭載されるのだとか……。
Gears of Warが2006年の秋、Gears of War 2が2008年の秋と2年のサイクルでこれまで発売されてきたシリーズ。第3作目が2010年の秋に発売されるのは、ごく自然の流れだったりするのかもしれませんが、今度はどのような進化を遂げてマーカス達が帰ってくるのか、またファンを驚かせるような発表に期待したいところです。

Okay, get this. CVG is reporting that the new issue of EGM features a Gears of War 3 rumor. Come on, that's just silly. Everyone knows that Cliff and the gang have "never announced" a trilogy. (Why do it now?) Besides, suggesting that Gears of War 3 will be released during holiday 2010 is just a little too obvious -- don't you think? Gears 1 in 2006. The sequel in 2008. And part three in 2010? No way. Everyone knows you're supposed to wait three years between the second and third games.
And what's this about Gears 3 featuring a "five-player co-op" mode? Ridiculous. There's no way Marcus and Dom's relationship has room for a third wheel, let alone a fourth and fifth. Move along. Nothing to see here.

We know of at least two major EA and Konami IPs that Wii fans are going to flip over when they become official and Ubisoft has titles like Red Steel 2 in the works, not to mention previously unknown efforts like TMNT, which are sure to satisfy the hardcore. And rest assured, Capcom will have some unexpected big guns of its own. Trust us when we write that Wii owners will not be disappointed.
There are also the still-secret Wii games by Nintendo. A rumored reboot to the Kid Icarus series, courtesy Factor 5, is expected to be made official early next year. An epic new project from Retro Studios will likely show at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009. And we would be shocked if the Big N did not also divulge more details on Pikmin 3, as well as the next Mario (Super Mario Galaxy 2, likely) and Zelda games, both confirmed to be in development by Shigeru Miyamoto.

According to an anonymous poster on the popular but perennially sketchy 4chan board, Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima visited the offices of Infinity Ward today. Why? "To learn" about first-person shooters, allegedly.
The purported Infinity Warder wrote — with accompanying photo "proof" of the visit — that Kojima is working on something in the "FPS genre so he came to us to learn and take details from the team." It wouldn't be the first time that Kojima was rumored to have called upon the Call of Duty developer's FPS know-how.
EGM (and 1UP, natch) ran unconfirmed reports that Kojima was "on tour," visiting FPS experts like Infinity Ward and Killzone developer Guerrilla Games for some knowledge sharing.
Kojima has also dropped by Call of Duty: World At War developer Treyarch, we hear, a strong hint that the head of Kojima Productions wants to put third-person cameras behind him.
Could this be what "a next Metal Gear is?" Or is Kojima working on another beloved property, Policenauts or Snatcher, possibly? We'll keep you posted. Until then, consider this rumor for now.

Bowling writes: "We're massive fans of Kojima's work, with MGS4 ranking up as one of my personal favorite games of all time. To presume Kojima and company has anything 'to learn' from us regarding game design is re-donku-lous. As fans of his team's work, we invited them to the studio for lunch and to check out what we currently have in the works while they were in Los Angeles. It's fairly typical for us to meet up with fellow developers whom we admire. Whether it be Kojima, Blizzard, or otherwise."

Sega Turning On Virtual On Development?

Aside from a Japan only Sega Ages update of Cyber Troopers: Virtual On Sega’s robot battling series vanished into the ether. Out of the few Virtual On games I spent the most time with Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram on the Dreamcast always envious of Sega’s bulky Virtual On Dreamcast controller. The massive device replicated how the game felt in the arcade and the Wii remote/nunchuck combo could do something similar.
So, my eyes lit up when I discovered Sega re-registered a trademark for Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram in the USPTO. Before you (or I) get too excited Sega likes to tease with their Dreamcast trademarks. Earlier this year they registered Cosmic Smash which hasn’t been used for anything. They also re-registered Jet Grind Radio and Sonic Shuffle. Sure, Samba de Amigo found its way to the Wii, but not every Sega Dreamcast game deserves or is going to get a port. Some of these have to be protective trademarks, but it’s still strange to see Sega protecting so many games especially commercially unsuccessful ones. Perhaps, Sega is working on a Sega Dreamcast collection? We know Sega loves re-releasing their history on current consoles.

2008年は、どうぶつの森、スマッシュブラザーズ、マリオカートなど、人気シリーズを次々とWiiでカムバックさせた任天堂ですが、2009年には、ゼルダの伝説やプリンセスピーチの新作ゲームが発売されると、海外のアナリストが予想しています。
米Lazard Capital MarketsのアナリストであるColin Sebastian氏は、投資家への報告の中で、22の新作ゲームが、2009年のゲーム業界の売上を5％上昇させるポテンシャルがあると説明。氏が並べ挙げたこの22タイトルの中には、バイオハザード5やStarCraft IIなど海外で大きな期待を寄せている作品がありましたが、まだ詳細が明らかになっていないWiiのゼルダの伝説最新作や、未発表のピーチ姫の新作アドベンチャーゲームが含まれていたとのこと。
GameSpotがこれらの未発表タイトルについてSebastian氏に説明を求めたところ、純粋な予想にすぎないと話しているようですが、氏が何らかの情報を事前に入手していたのでは、という見方もあるようです。

Although Nintendo has confirmed that new entries in the Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda series are underway for the Wii, the company has never given any further details or hints of a release date.
However, many analysts have suggested that a late 2009 release date is likely, including Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter.
Although often only one mainline Zelda game is released per generation of Nintendo home console, unusually, Twilight Princess was a launch title for the Wii and essentially a repurposed GameCube title. In his latest investor note, as passed on by consumer site GameSpot, Colin Sebastian made a list of 22 titles that could help to ensure a 5 percent revenue growth for games in 2009. Most of these were previously announced titles such as Resident Evil 5 and StarCraft II.
However, some titles have not been announced, and Sebastian references a new "Princess Peach adventure". Although he admitted that the release date for the new Zelda game was speculation on his part, Nintendo's never given any hint of a new Princess Peach game.
Sebastian also referenced Grand Theft Auto V in 2010, although he was apparently not referring to a numbered sequel, but the potential for a follow-up using the existing game engine – in the manner of Vice City and San Andreas.

小島工作室大改革，美、日式兩款新作開發中

《潛龍諜影》系列監督小島秀夫在最新一期日本遊戲週刊《FAMI通》上透露說，眼下小島工作室（Kojima Production）有兩款遊戲正在開發之中，其中一款將面向歐美市場製作。
小島監督在接受採訪時表示，這兩個開發項目由於從一開始就面向完全不同的市場，因此從工序到方法都截然不同，面向西方市場的這款遊戲將以更歐美化的風格進行製作，而面向日本本土的作品依然將按照小島工作室一如既往的傳統來開發。
遊戲開發風格上的轉變涉及到了工作室內部結構的變動，小島監督確認他的工作室正在進行這樣的嘗試，目的是為了提高自身競爭力以確保今後不會在與美國和歐洲的遊戲開發團隊的較量中敗下陣來，我猜這跟他之前連續走訪幾家歐美著名FPS遊戲開發商的經歷也不無聯繫。
