Tottenham made a "dizzying" offer to Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui but the former Spain boss will not be going anywhere, according to the La Liga club's president Jose Castro.

The north London side have been looking for a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho since his sacking in April.

Lopetegui, 54, guided Sevilla to Champions League qualification with a fourth-place finish last season.

Castro said Lopetegui had "received offers he'd not listened to".

Talking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Sevilla's president continued: "Julen rang me and told me.

"Some coaches are more driven by economic factors but Julen is very clear that he is happy here and he even said it would be very difficult to find a better place to work than here.

"We believed and believe in him, giving him a two-year contract extension, and I'm sure he will bring much more to the club."

Former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is the leading contender to become the new Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho on 19 April but have endured a chaotic search for a replacement.

Talks with ex-Roma boss Paulo Fonseca ended last week and Gennaro Gattuso also went out of consideration amid a fans' protest.

Nuno has been linked with the vacant managerial jobs at Everton and Crystal Palace this summer.

Earlier this week former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann told BBC Sport he was keen on the White Hart Lane job, before Spurs had a "dizzying" offer for Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui turned down, according to the Spanish club.

Earlier in June, Spurs had been in advanced talks with former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, while also trying to persuade their former manager Mauricio Pochettino to leave his role at Paris St-Germain.

Nuno, 47, left Wolves in May after four years. He won the Championship title in his first season, and Wolves finished seventh in the Premier League in the following two seasons before finishing 13th last season.

Tottenham are closing in on the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager.

Nuno left Wolves in May after four impressive seasons, during which time he took the club from the Championship to a Europa League quarter-final.

He has been on Tottenham's radar throughout what has become a tortuous process to find a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who was sacked in April.

Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte were both heavily linked with the job.

They were then discarded as candidates before a farcical 48 hours earlier this month when Paolo Fonseca thought he was taking over, only to be dumped in favour of Gennaro Gattuso, who was quickly rejected when fans reacted badly to the existence of social media posts which brought the Italian's commitment to inclusivity into question.

Numerous names have been linked with the job, including Ajax's Erik ten Hag and Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.

However, Nuno is now close to being appointed amid input from new sporting director Fabio Paratici, who has flown into England to complete the process.

Given the difficulties Tottenham have already experienced, few fans will believe the saga is over until an official announcement is made.

There is an urgency around the situation because players who have not been involved in major tournaments this summer are due to begin pre-season training on Monday.

Tottenham play their first pre-season match at Leyton Orient on 17 July.

Nuno won the 2017-18 Championship title in his first season with Wolves before leading them to seventh in the Premier League in the following two seasons, while they finished 13th last season.

"We should like to thank our supporters for all their patience throughout this process," said Levy.

"I've spoken already about the need to revert back to our core DNA of playing attacking, entertaining football, and [managing director of football] Fabio [Paratici] and I believe Nuno is the man who can take our talented group of players, embrace our young players coming through and build something special."

Paratici left his role as Juventus' long-serving chief football officer to take on his role at Spurs earlier this month.

"You only have to look at Nuno's time at Wolves to see his ability to take a group of players and implement an adaptive style that brings success and allows players to develop and thrive," he said.

Tottenham and Sevilla agree Kondé deal - Player rejects transfer

In the summer of 2020, Sevilla rejected a €55 million offer from Manchester City for centre-back Jules Koundé – according to information acquired by Sky journalist Gianluca di Marzio, the Spanish top club are now said to have reached an agreement with Tottenham on the transfer of their most valuable player. According to Marca, however, Koundé himself has put a stop to the plans.

Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi is reportedly willing to sell Koundé to London for a total package of €30 million plus Davinson Sánchez. In October 2020, Monchi said on the club’s TV channel: “55 million euros, that’s a lot of money in the current situation. But we saw that Jules Koundé has room for development and we thought it was inappropriate to sell him. It helped that he also understood that and wanted to stay here.”

Tottenham are set to make Atalanta keeper Pierluigi Gollini their first signing of the Nuno Espirito Santo era.

A loan deal for the 26-year-old has been brokered by new technical director Fabio Paratici.

It is understood the transfer will contain an option to buy for €15m (£12.9m) at the end of next season.

Gollini played 20 times for Aston Villa in the Championship in 2016 before joining Atalanta, where he has been number one for the past three seasons.

He has one cap for Italy but missed out on selection for Euro 2020.

Tottenham & Sevilla to finalise swap deal: Lamela plus multi-million fee for youngster Gil

Tottenham and Sevilla are apparently working on a major swap deal. According to transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca di Marzio, Sevilla’s homegrown talent Bryan Gil is set to move to London in exchange for winger Erik Lamela plus a €25 million transfer fee and bonus payments.

For Lamela, the longest-serving Spurs player after Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane, it would be a goodbye after eight years. In the past five seasons, he was mostly used as a substitute and has a contract expiring in the summer of 2022.

Sonny signs new four-year deal

We are delighted to announce that Heung-Min Son has signed a new four-year contract with the Club, which will run until 2025.

The South Korea captain, 29, has scored 107 goals and claimed 64 assists in 280 appearances in all competitions since joining us from Bayer Leverkusen in August, 2015.

‘Sonny’ wrote his in name into Club folklore by scoring the first Premier League and first Champions League goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the space of a week in April, 2019. He followed that eight days later by scoring twice in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City, another dramatic night on our way to our first Champions League Final.

Sonny’s stunning solo goal against Burnley in the Premier League in December, 2019 - where he ran from just outside our penalty area to score at the other end - attained worldwide acclaim, winning the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year and Premier League Goal of the Season.

He won his third Player of the Month award from the Premier League in October, 2020, and formed a lethal partnership with Harry Kane in 2020/21, their 14 goal combinations a record for a Premier League season. Both players were later named in the PFA Team of the Season.

Gollini loan agreed

We are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini from Italian side Atalanta on a season-long loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent.

Born in Bologna, Pierluigi, 26, played his youth football at Verona and Manchester United before returning to Verona to make his Serie A debut in September, 2014. He played 27 times the next season, 2015/16, prompting a move to Aston Villa in July, 2016.

He played 20 times for Villa in the Championship in 2016/17 and, coincidentally, was on the bench when we beat Villa 2-0 in the FA Cup third round at White Hart Lane in January, 2017.

Pierluigi moved back to Italy initially on loan at Atalanta later that month, a move made permanent in June, 2018. He’s since played 108 times in all competitions for the Bergamo club, including 10 appearances in the Champions League in 2019/20 and 2020/21. He played 32 times last season as Atalanta finished third in Serie A and were runners-up in the Coppa Italia.

Pierluigi has been capped at Under-18, 19, 20 and 21 levels for Italy, and made his senior debut off the bench in a Euro 2020 qualifying match against Bosnia & Herzegovina in November, 2019.

The deal is subject to international clearance.

Tottenham have signed Sevilla winger Bryan Gil, with Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela joining the Spanish club as part of the deal.

Twenty-year-old Gil, who has agreed a five-year deal for £22.5m, made his Spain debut in March and is part of the squad at the Olympics.

He made 14 La Liga appearances for Sevilla, all as a substitute.

Argentina international Lamela, 29, joined Spurs from Roma for £25.7m in 2013.

He scored 37 goals in 255 games and was an unused substitute in the 2019 Champions League final defeat by Liverpool.

Gil came through Sevilla's youth academy before making his senior debut in January 2019.

His final appearance came in September 2020 before he joined Eibar on a season-long loan.

He scored four goals in 28 league games as Eibar finished bottom of the table last season.

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Al-Duhail which sees defender Toby Alderweireld join the Qatari club.

The Belgian, 32, who joined Spurs in 2015, flew to Doha for discussions over the move last week.

He made 236 appearances for Spurs after joining from Atletico Madrid.

Alderweireld's contract ran to 2023, but the club's new technical director Fabio Paratici, together with manager Nuno Espirito Santo, is in the process of reshaping the squad.

Troy Parrott has joined League One side MK Dons on loan for the 2021/22 season.

The 19-year-old striker spent the first half of last term on loan at Millwall in the Championship, making 14 appearances, before playing a further 18 times for Ipswich Town in League One during the second part of the campaign, scoring twice.

A senior Republic of Ireland international, Troy has made four competitive first team appearances for us to date.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has failed to report to the club's training ground for a second day as the stand-off over his future continues amid interest from Manchester City.

It is anticipated the England striker, 28, will be fined for his absence.

Kane believes he has a gentleman's agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to leave the club this summer.

He is expected to return to the club by the end of the week and talks are anticipated between both parties.

The England captain did not turn up as scheduled on Monday for his coronavirus tests, without which he cannot join in with the group sessions, and was absent again on Tuesday.

Manchester City remain keen on Kane but have ruled out any chance of paying £160m, which was suggested as the potential fee Tottenham would want earlier in the summer.

Tottenham have signed Argentina defender Cristian Romero from Atalanta for about £47m.

The fee is the second highest Spurs have paid for a player behind the £53.8m for Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.

Romero, 23, who won the Copa America with Argentina earlier in the summer, was voted the best defender in Serie A last season.

He becomes Spurs' third summer signing and takes their outlay leading up to the new season to nearly £70m.

Winger Bryan Gil joined from Sevilla in July while Pierluigi Gollini signed on loan, also from Atalanta.

Romero said he is "ready to start and give everything" for Spurs.

"I'm very happy to be wearing this shirt and to come to this club," he said.

"I want to thank the fans for all the messages. You wanted me here and here I am."

Spurs have not disclosed the length of Romero's contract.

The 22-year-old, who has been capped by England at youth level, joined our Academy at the age of 10 and made his first team debut as a second-half substitute in our 4-0 Europa League win over Ludogorets in November, 2020.
