We have to admit to feeling just a little silly about continuing to remind you about these XBLA releases when you knew the lot of them a month or so ago. But, we're told that people with "that Memento guy disease" (excuse the clinical terminology) make up around 10 percent of our audience, surprising as that may be.

So, as a reminder to most of you and a hot scoop for a precious few: Motocross platformer (that sounds made-up, we know) Trials HD is going to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday for 1200 ($15). Have fun, just don't let it stop you from tracking down John G.

Spotted at Quakecon: Doom II for XBLA

Whilst roaming the halls of Quakecon and shooting everything in sight (with a camera), our friends at BigDownload spotted a heretofore unannounced Xbox Live Arcade version of id Software's FPS classic, Doom 2. According to Shacknews, the downloadable title is set feature all of Doom II's content, in addition to a new episode, 4-player local multiplayer and the usual online shootery. You can also expect an exciting doubling of barrels over the original Doom -- both of the exploding and shotgun varieties.

Also spotted at Quakecon: a further proof of life from our long-anticipated friend, Quake Arena Arcade!

Panzer General: Allied Assault Announced

Today, Ubisoft announces it will be releasing Panzer General®: Allied Assault on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft in the Fall 2009. 'Splosion Man Avatar Awards revealed

Twisted Pixel has officially revealed the Avatar Awards that are set to appear in 'Splosion Man in the near future. Even better, the developer even told us the requirements to unlock the two awards. The first award is a men's T-shirt and a women's hoodie. To unlock it, simply break your first pane of glass in 'Splosion Man. The second one, however, is just a bit more difficult. To unlock the Big Science T-shirt and dress, you'll have to complete the entire co-op campaign. Yeah, the whole thing.

Finally, we've got one other bit of good news. If you've already accomplished these tasks, the items will automatically unlock. Unfortunately, we still don't know when the Avatar Awards will be available, but you can bet we'll be all over them -- and they will be all over our Avatars -- when they release.

This Wednesday: The NBA drafts the Watchmen on XBLA

This week, we're officially jumping straight from the Summer of Arcade into the winter of our discontent with ho-hum XBLA releases. Don't get us wrong -- we have nothing against basketball, but NBA 2K10 Draft Combine (400 / $5), which lets those who purchase it build and train a player for use in October's NBA 2K10, ain't exactly Shadow Complex. Its title does makes it sound like the NBA is going to draft the bad guys from Half-Life 2, though, which we'd totally pay to see.

So, that's about it -- oh, that's right, there's another Arcade release this week. It's part two of Watchmen: The End is Nigh, the movie tie-in beat-'em-up best known for exposing those who've played it to near-lethal levels of boredom. If you really, really love Watchmen and really, really don't mind the liberties this game takes with the license, it can be yours for 1200 ($15). Wow, really? Actually, if you simply must have the game, it's been available on disc along with part one since late last month ... for $20 on Amazon.

August 25, 2009 - Released earlier this year on Xbox Live Arcade, Death Tank is a 2D vehicular shooter that was originally a bonus game in the SEGA Saturn's Powerslave. IGN wasn't so crazy about it, but it does have its fans. The game has recently received a free update that adds new weapons, new tanks, and a weapon editor.

One of our main complaints with the game is that the $15 price tag seemed steep. But the developers are giving away free copies over on their official site, in which case we'd definitely say you should take the game for a spin.

The classic franchise does well on Microsoft's download service.


Hudson Entertainment has announced that Bomberman LIVE, the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of its classic multiplayer game, has now sold in excess of half a million copies.
“We are awed by the enthusiasm and excitement of Bomberman fans everywhere,” said Sabine Duvall, Vice President of Digital Download at Hudson Entertainment. “Watching fans have fun with Bomberman and each other in this classic, fast-paced action game has been truly rewarding. Peggle 出DLC


Peggle Nights falling into XBLA

Peggle, after releasing pretty much everywhere else to critical acclaim, came out on Xbox Live Arcade this March, to additional critical acclaim, thanks to its new multiplayer modes. Now Peggle fans intent on either playing the game only on Xbox or on buying every Peggle release will have something else to look forward to as PopCap has announced the XBLA release of the sequel, Peggle Nights, coming by way of an XBLA expansion for the original Peggle.

Like other releases of Peggle Nights, the XBLA version includes a new Peggle Master named Marina, 60 new levels, and 60 new challenges and will be available to all Peggle players as a Title Update. Most importantly to some status-obsessed gamers, Peggle Nights will include three new Achievements, worth a total of 50 points.

Peggle Nights will be available sometime this fall for an undisclosed price.

N+ Dev Gathering Scrap Metal

August 27, 2009 - Slick Entertainment is a two man team that developed N+ along with Metanet Software last year. Today Slick announced its next Xbox Live Arcade project, a top-down racer called Scrap Metal. The retro-style game will feature 3D visuals and utilize physics for realistic driving. Players will be able to drift, race against bosses, and collect cars in their garage. Weapons are included, as well as local and online multiplayer. The developer's blog also says it's experimenting with 3D visuals.

Scrap Metal will be released next year, but a playable version will be on the Penny Arcade Expo show floor next week.

Sonic & Knuckles & XBLA on September 9

Sega's classic expansion to Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, is hitting Xbox Live Arcade on September 9.



While Xbox 360 emulation takes the fun out of stacking expansion carts, Sega is including a few unlockables for the game, provided you own the XBLA ports of the first three Sonics. Buying each of the previous games unlocks the following:

• Sonic the Hedgehog: Unlocks the game "Blue Sphere," the bonus/Chaos Emerald level from Sonic the Hedgehog 3
• Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Lets you play as Knuckles, complete with the ability to get to previously inaccessible areas of the game, and new power-ups added for playingas Knuckles
• Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Play as Knuckles in Sonic 3, and also changes the flow of the game and connects it directly to Sonic & Knuckles, so that you can play the two seamlessly!

This week's XBLA offerings are a pair of 800 ($10) titles, reports Major Nelson: Defense Grid: The Awakening and Yo-Ho KaBlammo. Each title is a bit heavy on the combat, with Defense Grid offering plenty of tower defense action, and Yo-Ho KaBlammo taking to the seas for some free-for-all naval combat. That sounds all well and good, but whatever happened to killing 'em with kindness? What would Gandhi say?

Frank Wilson, CTO of Twisted Pixel Games, learned today of an exploit that enabled cheaters to post impossibly good scores in his latest Xbox LIVE® Arcade game Splosion Man. With cold precision, he initiated a response: Splodejement Day.

On Tuesday, September 1st, at approximately 2 a.m. PDT, a title update will be released to permanently seal the exploit, and select scores will be wiped from the leaderboards, so that only legitimate scores remain. This purge will be in time for the “Speedy Splode” trophy contest, where the player with the best time in the single-player level 3-8 during the week of September 6th to 12th will win a unique Splosion Man statue and an autographed poster by the developers.

When asked, Mr. Wilson had this to say about his custom-built leaderboard-clearing application, which he affectionately calls Splodenet: “It goes on-line August 31st, 2009. Human decisions are removed from leaderboard defense. Splodenet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Pacific Time, September 1st. There is no score but what we earn for ourselves.”

Twisted Pixel also stated that this title update will not add avatar accessory awardable support to Splosion Man, as the timing of that release is up to Microsoft.

Spelunky explores XBLA in 2010

PC indie title Spelunky is ready to explore the dark, cavernous recesses of your console when it makes its way to Xbox Live Arcade in 2010. Developer Derek Yu says he'll be "stuffing [the XBLA version] with new graphics, audio and other features for XBLA users." He's not sure if he'll update the original PC version of Spelunky, as he believes it "doesn't need replacing," but he'll continue supporting it as a free title.

XBLA Summer of Arcade sales grow 200%

Microsoft had a good summer, according to the company's summary of Xbox Live events. 1 vs. 100 reached nearly 3 million gamers during its beta season by Microsoft's estimates, and the Summer of Arcade Xbox Live Arcade promotion enjoyed a reported 200 percent growth in revenue over last year's sales.

While Microsoft has already relished in Metroidvania success, a press release claims that Trials HD and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 also performed well in first-week sales; and both titles join Shadow Complex in the top five bestselling week-one XBLA games of all time. Sales were no doubt boosted by a cloudy economy that kept folks indoors and looking for inexpensive entertainment. Microsoft capitalized, too, by raising the average price of its Summer of Arcade titles.

During last year's promotion, three of the five Summer of Arcade games were priced at $10, but this year, only two of the five were $10 -- the other three costing $15 apiece. (It's unclear if Microsoft counts Battlefield 1943's sales toward revenue growth; the $15 title was not technically part of Summer of Arcade this year.)

Microsoft also saw success in its bold, new free entertainment department. 1 vs. 100 averaged more than half a million users during each of the game show's live sessions. According to Microsoft, the game's near "three-million" downloads within its 13-week availability places 1 vs. 100 within the top ten downloads in Xbox Live history. If we've learned anything on this gloomy fall morning, it's that people like summer gaming and Microsoft has way too many "top" lists cluttering up its offices.
