Assassin’s Creed III confirmed for October 30 release
Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed III will release on October 30 this year, following earlier confirmation that Far Cry 3 will release on September 6.
The date was given in a financial call to investors today. Details regarding the game are minute at this point, but it will star a new protagonist. Various locations have been rumored over recent months, with Egypt, China, and America during the Revolutionary period the running favorites. The French Revolution has also been mentioned.
Ubisoft also announced during its call to investors today that 7 million copies of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations shopped during the company’s Q3 ending December 31.
The new comes after a heated day for Ubisoft, in which a trailer emerged this morning confirming a September 6 release for Far Cry 3.
The announcement of the title’s launch was supposed to arrive tomorrow afternoon, Europe time. Ubisoft responded to the leak by moving the official release of the cinematic footage forward to today.
Far Cry 3 will release on PC, PS3 and 360.
The Assassin’s Creed game follows last year’s Revelations, which rounded off Ezio Auditore’s plot arc.
What is Assassin's Creed 3? Beyond a name and a distant release date (October 30), we don't have a damn clue. But that was all the information given today during an Ubisoft financials call hosted by company head Yves Guillemot. "Assassin's Creed 3 is the true next generation of both the Assassin's Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general," Guillemot said of the game.
He went on to say that Ubi is investing in AC3 more than any past title in the franchise, and that he expects it to sell beyond the 7 million racked up by Revelations. No other details were offered for now, and Guillemot added that we'll hear more about the game in the coming months.
We can guess that the upcoming game likely won't feature series star Ezio Auditore, as Ubi has claimed his trilogy is over. And it looks like this game will likely conclude the current story arc. Oh, and it's also possible that this is heading to Wii U, given that there's some form of AC title in the works for Nintendo's Wii successor. But that's all we got. We swear.
Ubisoft Confirms Assassin's Creed III
Coming in October.
During an earnings call today, Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed III will be released in October.
According to CEO Yves Guillemot, the game will hit stores on October 30th. Guillemot revealed that the game has been in development for three years and that "what we have seen is just fabulous."
Previously, Ubisoft teased that a major Assassin's Creed title would come this year, but this is the first outright confirmation that it's AC III. The game is said to complete the story of Desmond.
While no platforms have been announced, recent Assassin's Creed games have hit Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game is likely headed to Wii U as well, since an Assassin's Creed game was announced for Nintendo's new system during E3
