Sony lowers The Last of Us: Remastered price, refuses to give people a refund

Earlier today, you might have seen reports about The Last of Us: Remastered being listed as $49.99 at various retailers. Well, after some time, Sony themselves updated the price on the PlayStation Store to reflect this change in MSRP. But what does that mean for those of you who pre-ordered before the change? Well, unfortunately I have some bad news.

Following the price change, many tried to contact Sony in an effort to receive their extra $10 credited back to their PSN wallet or credit card. Normally, customer service would have no problem doing this, but not here. With pre-orders on PSN, the fine print at the bottom states the following:

YOU MAY NOT CANCEL A PRE-ORDER AT ANY TIME AND REFUNDS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDERS, SUBJECT TO APPLICABLE LAWS.

That means no refunds or even partial refunds in this case. Try as they might, the people who requested refunds were denied due to this clause at the end of the pre-order page. If this evolves into something large enough, we wouldn’t be surprised seeing Sony change their minds just this once, but for the time being, it doesn’t look like this is the case.

Amazon France lists new The Last of Us: Remastered PS4 bundle

Anyone still waiting to take the plunge with regards to PlayStation 4 may just tip-toe over the edge with what looks like a brand-new bundle in celebration of the release of The Last of Us: Remastered.

Spotted by the keen-eyed folk over at NeoGAF, the bundle – which has appeared as a listing on the French branch of online retailer Amazon – has the standard 500GB PlayStation 4 bundled with a copy of Naughty Dog’s remastered magnum opus, The Last of Us. Priced at €429.99 with a release date set at July 30, the bundle would undoubtedly come as a welcome surprise to anyone looking to snap up both the game and the console – especially with bit of a discount.

Naughty Dog has already started internal testing of The Last of Us: Remastered for Playstation 4, and the early impression coming out from those who got access to near finished build is enough to convince those who still haven't pre-ordered the game.

Benson Russell, Senior Game Designer at Naughty Dog, is among one of those who tested The Last of Us: Remastered, and here's what he has to say about it: "best next-gen title, it looks like it was originally created for PlayStation 4"

"Testing #TheLastOfUsRemastered, holy cow it looks like it was originally created for the #PS4. One of the best next-gen titles I've seen."

When his colleague, Jason Paul replied that people will be calling them Biased, Benson replied: "bias maybe, but considering this was a PS3 game

When another Twitter user asked to show something rather than tell? Benson replied:

"ya'll get to experience it soon enough "

Another Naughty Dog developer Quentin Cobb stated that The Last of Us: Remastered multiplayer looks and feel incredible on the Playstation 4.

MP looks and feels incredible on the PS4 at 60 FPS.

As an added bonus, Quentin revealed that a patch to fix for SELF SMOKE VAULT even if you are using BOMB EXPERT 3.

In another news, Benson Russell praised Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto V transferring saves across platform feature and added that more companies need to follow this.

Naughty Dog has been teasing us with talk of 60 FPS for The Last of Us Remastered for a while, but considering the habit of many developers and publishers to call “60 FPS” a frame rate that touches that goal but dips under it when things get chaotic, having doubts is legitimate.
Luckily Lead Programmer Christian Gyrling did his part today to dispel said doubts, clarifying that the team did its best to avoid any drops under the 60 magical number.

We have worked hard to remove drops so that the experience should be at a constant 60 fps.

Gyrling also confirmed that the game will hold 60 FPS for both single player and multiplayer:

Yes, 60 fps in both single and multiplayer.

But there is more. Programmer Allen Chou linked to a haunting blog post showing some awesome pictures of real abandoned malls by Seph Lawless, and confirmed that those were used as reference material for Left Behind, which will be included in The Last of Us Remastered.
You can check them out just below. It’s definitely not hard to see how the game was inspired by real life, and they give some interesting insight on the creative process behind environmental design in games.
