April 01, 2004 - In a move that surprises no one, Nintendo will unleash another limited edition Game Boy Advance SP system. And much like the upcoming NES Game Boy Advance SP system set for release on June 7th, this system is aimed at the half dozen or so people who remember another Nintendo videogame system released in the early 90s.


The Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance SP system will be released to coincide with the Virtual Boy's ninth anniversary since its US launch and miserable death in the US. The system will best mimic the original system's red-on-top, black-on-bottom color design. Similar to if Nintendo grafted a Flame SP top to an Onyx SP bottom.



The Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance SP will also have the standard color LCD removed, in favor of a specially produced front lit TFT LCD screen that can handle 256 shades of red. Every game produced for the Game Boy Advance will only play in red on the Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance SP system, accurately portraying the graphics capability of the Virtual Boy system.








Nintendo will also release the Classic Virtual Boy collection for the Game Boy Advance on specially manufactured Red and Black GBA cartridges. The games will play as if they were on the Virtual Boy system, without the need to shove your face into a goofy looking visor. The 3D effect can only be emulated with two copies of the game, two systems, a link cable, and the ability to cross your eyes as if looking at one of those Magic Eye paintings that were the rage in the 90s.

Even though the smallest GBA cartridge can hold multiple Virtual Boy games, the Classic Virtual Boy series will be packaged one game per cartridge at a retail price of ten dollars more than the standard GBA price, so as not to pollute the already flooded eBay resellers' market.



"[The Virtual Boy] died before its time," said a Nintendo representative, who asked to remain anonymous due to the potential flogging he would receive if someone heard that he actually liked the Virtual Boy. "The system had so much to offer kids with fully developed eyesight over the age of seven. So many classics! Like....uh, Nester's Funky Bowling. And Red Alarm. Red hot sellers that broke the hundreds of copies mark back in 1995. Get it? Red hot?"

The apocryphal Virtual Boy Game Boy Advance will launch for $199.99. It will quickly drop in price to $99.99, then $49.99, eventually hitting clearance aisles and outlet stores for $29.99 before disappearing into obscurity six months after its release.
