Tottenham to hijack Saliba deal - Spurs trump Arsenal offer
Tottenham Hotspur have made a last-minute bid to hijack Arsenal FC’s move for AS Saint-Étienne centre-back William Saliba, according to “RMC”. The Gunners had reportedly all but agreed a deal for the 18-year-old before, but struggled to find a settlement with the French club regarding the structure of possible bonus payments.
Tottenham are said to have trumped Arsenal’s bid by offering 30 million euros, excluding bonuses. Their North London rivals offered the same amount including possible bonus payments. Spurs officials will allegedly meet their Saint-Étienne counterparts on Saturday to complete the deal.
It is well possible that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will agree to send the young defender back to ASSE on loan for the upcoming season, just like Arsenal were planning to do. Saliba is expected to sign a five-year contract.
