Vijay Mallya believes the safety concerns following the tyre blow-outs at Silverstone are overhyped, although the Force India boss won't protest against changes in the specifications of the Pirelli tyres.

Several incidents of tyre blow-outs occurred during the British Grand Prix, which forced the FIA to change its own regulations in order for Pirelli to alter the specifications of the tyres it will provide without the unanimous agreement of all the teams.

While several drivers have expressed their concern about pieces of tread coming loose from cars following a blow-out, Mallya believes the safety concerns are overblown due to the spectacular way tyres failed at Silverstone.

"Other than the car behind and the driver who might get a bit startled with the sudden explosion in front, it really isn't a major safety issue from that point of view," he was quoted by Autosport.

"We didn't see cars wildly spinning off and crashing into the barriers. But Pirelli needs to do what it needs to do and work with the various teams to come up with an appropriate solution."

Although Force India was one of the teams that was against Pirelli's attempts to change the casing of the tyres from steel to Kevlar after multiple delaminations earlier in the season, Mallya added that his team won't protest now that the FIA has gone over the team's heads by changing the specification rules.

"We are having no issue, so why should we make other people's issues our issues?" Mallya added.

"But there is no question of this team being irresponsible in any way, and objecting for the sake of objecting to any proposed change that impacts on safety in Formula One - no question.

"However, if we believe that a few teams have understood the tyres better, and are able to manage the tyres better, without compromising safety, why should we vote for change?"
