Super Mario Bros. Wii Uncovered?
Could one of Nintendo's big press conference surprises have been unveiled early?

June 2, 2009 - Earlier this evening, we here at IGN posted some photos giving you an early glance at Nintendo's booth displays for E3 2009. Several games and kiosks are viewable in the images, including large displays for Sin & Punishment 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. What may be most interesting, though, is what you can't quite see.
Draped over several large sections of Nintendo's booth are some grey curtains, meant to obscure the art underneath from view -- presumably to maintain secrecy until after Nintendo's E3 press conference tomorrow morning. Never underestimate the investigative powers of Internet forum posters, though, because where there appeared to be nothing but bare tapestries something a little more interesting seems to have been uncovered.
Looking more closely at one of our images, you can discern some dark shapes underneath. Then, looking more closely, and applying perhaps a few contrast-altering adjustments, you can further discern what looks to be a Fire Flower and set of floating bricks from the Super Mario Bros franchise.
Then, most interesting of all, a logo that could say "Super Mario Bros. Wii," or "New Super Mario Bros. Wii."

02.06.09 - Nintendo könnte womöglich an einem neuen Super Mario-Spiel arbeiten. Diese Annahme lässt sich aus Nintendos E3-Messestand ableiten.
Der Messestand befindet sich gerade noch im Aufbau. Einige Wände sind noch mit Decken verhüllt. Allerdings scheint darunter des Mario-Logo hindurch, so dass es sich vielleicht um ein neues Super Mario Bros.-Spiel handeln könnte.
Die E3 beginnt heute, so dass in Kürze Klarheit über das Spiel herrschen sollte.

E3 2009: New Super Mario Bros Wii Announced
Multiplayer competitive Mario coming to the Wii.
June 2, 2009 - Despite Nintendo's best efforts to keep the game under wrap, rumors of a new Mario game on the Wii have quickly spread across the internet.
At Nintendo's E3 press conference today, the company confirmed that New Super Mario Bros is indeed coming to Wii.
According to Nintendo, New Super Mario Wii offers a "new way to play Mario Bros that's never been done before."
The all new Super Mario Bros for Wii include four player multiplayer. It's a competitive multiplayer Mario game, where players run through the classic style levels, fighting each other for coins and powerups.
Nintendo demoed the four player mode, with Cammie Dunaway and three other Nintendo employees.
Players can jump on each other, shoot each other with fireballs and other attacks. Item boxes generally produce one item per character. Killed players reappear in bubbles and players can free them, or leave them stuck for a while. One of the new powerups is the Propeller Suit, a jump suit that has a helmet with a propeller. Shaking the Wii-remote will let players fly in the air.
When a player goes into a warp pipe the game forces the other players to follow in, where they fight over the coins in the secret room.
At the end of the level, as soon as one player grabs the flag pole, the other players have about three seconds to grab it for bonus points. The points are tallied up and the players are ranked.
New Super Mario Bros Wii is scheduled for a Holiday 2009 release. The game is on the show floor, so look for our hands-on later today.
