Numbed Wilson flies home

WILSON PALACIOS will not play for Tottenham again this season after the brutal murder of his teenage brother.

Palacios flew home to Honduras on Saturday after what are thought to be the remains of 16-year-old Edwin were discovered 150 miles from the capital Tegucigalpa.

Edwin was seized by armed kidnappers from his home in the coastal town of La Ceiba following Wilson’s move to Birmingham in August 2007.

Palacios, who had paid a ｣125,000 ransom, left the Spurs team hotel in Liverpool on Saturday before the 0-0 draw at Everton.

Boss Harry Redknapp said: The kid was numb really, he was in shock.

They are a really close family and it’s a horrible situation. It must be like little Madeleine. Are you best off knowing? He’d been kidnapped for 18 months, hoping he would be released, but that’s what is happening in South America at the moment.

Wilson’s got to go home, take care of his mum and brother, and come back when he’s ready. He doesn’t need to play again this season.

The lad had heard from his family at about one in the morning. His brothers, I believe, have identified the body.

But he sat around the hotel lobby with his case packed until 7am because he didn’t want to wake me.

I’m amazed with him. But we organised for him to be driven back to London so he could get a flight home.

You’d never meet a nicer boy. He’s so humble, just a lovely, lovely kid.

Football is not really that important after this.・

Spurs join Tevez race
SPURS are fighting Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid to land Carlos Tevez.

The Argentinian striker believes his time is up at Manchester United but wishes to stay in the Premier League.

Sources close to Tevez have told SunSport that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp loves the player so much he will try to buy him from his owners for around ｣25million.

Wheeler-dealer Redknapp is planning a major clearout at White Hart Lane in a bid to raise substantial funds for new players.

He wants rid of Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko, England attacker Darren Bent and midfielder David Bentley — and will also consider offers for others.

Redknapp can guarantee Tevez first-team football and is convinced the popular striker would be a major hit in North London.

He reckons Tevez could take Spurs to the next level and give them a chance of competing for Champions League places.

But he recognises Tottenham would be outsiders with so many clubs after Tevez.

Tevez insiders insisted: There are lots of different clubs all over Europe who want Tevez and each one is being considered carefully.

Spurs would really like him but there are questions about whether they can raise the money quickly enough.

Tevez would like his future sorted out soon and Spurs will have to do a lot of work if they want to get him.・

King 'regrets' nightclub incident

Footballer Ledley King said a "night out with friends went too far" after he was bailed following an allegation of assault outside a London nightclub.

The Spurs captain was questioned on suspicion of assaulting another man in Soho in the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement on the Spurs website, Mr King, 28, said he had apologised to club manager Harry Redknapp.

The player has been bailed by police until mid-July while inquiries continue into the incident.

Mr King's statement reads: "I sincerely regret that a night out with friends went too far. I have apologised to Harry and I fully appreciate that, as a professional footballer, I have a duty to behave in a responsible manner."

He added: "I am assisting the police with their inquiries.

"Anyone who knows me, knows that much of what has been suggested is totally out of character.

"I am keen to resolve this as soon as possible and concentrate on my football. I shall be putting my all into ensuring I give of my best for the remaining fixtures."

Earlier, speaking outside London's Charing Cross Police Station, Inspector Phil Clare said: "I can confirm, in the early hours of this morning, a man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He has been interviewed at this police station and as a result of what he's told us we've bailed him to come back at a later date."

Redknapp plans Spurs alcohol ban

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has vowed to introduce an alcohol ban after Ledley King was arrested for an alleged assault outside a London nightclub.

Club captain King was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and questioned on suspicion of assaulting another man in Soho.

"I'll implement a strong rule next season that drinking is a no-no here," Redknapp told the Sun newspaper.

"Footballers should dedicate their lives to playing."

He added: "Footballers should not drink. You shouldn't put diesel in a Ferrari. I know it's hard but they are earning big money, they are role models to kids."

King has been bailed by police until mid-July while inquiries continue into the incident.

The 28-year-old defender has since apologised for the incident describing the evening "a night out with friends which went too far".

But Redknapp feels that an alcohol ban would prevent a repeat of the incident.

"We wouldn't get these problems if the players weren't drinking," he said.

"There's still too much of a drinking culture in English football but it's not as bad as it used to be.

"At Tottenham we do a lot with kids, a lot of them underprivileged.

"We have to set an example. Too much drinking goes on in this country. Too many people are not happy unless they have had a drink."

Redknapps set to link up at Spurs

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has offered his son Jamie a coaching role at White Hart Lane next season.

The ex-Liverpool and Spurs midfielder retired in 2005 and is now a television pundit but that is unlikely to prevent him from taking up his father's offer.

"Next year, I hope Jamie will come in and spend a couple of days a week working with the youth sides, just for the love of it," Redknapp said.

"He's doing his coaching badges and he would be great with the kids."

Former England midfielder Jamie, 35, who was forced to retire due to a knee injury in 2005, started his career at Bournemouth while father Harry was in charge, before spending over 10 years at Liverpool, making more than 300 appearances.

After leaving Anfield he played 49 games for Spurs in his two and a half seasons at White Hart Lane, before linking up once more with his father when he was in charge at Southampton.

Harry Redknapp, 62, succeeded Juande Ramos at White Hart Lane in October and has already added former Spurs players Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood to the coaching staff at the club.

"There are so many former players out there who have so much to offer," Redknapp said.

"Tim and Les have done very well since they have been here but clubs do not give those boys a chance. I don't want to lose either of them but if a lower-league club were to give them a chance, they would be fantastic.

"It is almost a crime that they are not involved, because there are so many who could do a great job."
