PopCap is bringing the exuberantly announced Peggle 2 and 3D shooter Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare to Xbox One first, Microsoft just revealed at its Gamescom conference. Peggle 2 will be available on Xbox One at launch, while Garden Warfare comes to the system sometime next year.

EA is catapulting Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare onto Xbox One and Xbox 360 on February 18, 2014 in North America, and the shooter lands in Europe three days later on February 21. The third-person, multiplayer-only off-shute is also being planned for PC, but hasn't been dated for that platform yet.

The publisher released a new 10 minute gameplay video to mark the announcement, in which PopCap Executive Producer Brian Lindley provides commentary on the 24-player Team Vanquish mode. It's one of three modes in the Xbox 360 game, the other two being Garden & Graveyards, also a 12 versus 12 competitive mode, and a four-player co-operative one titled Garden Ops (surely it should be Green Ops?)

There are two additions in the Xbox One version: The next-gen console gets a split-screen Horde-like mode in which two players fend off zombie attacks, and Boss Mode, which lets players use Kinect or SmartGlass in an auxiliary role with other modes, where they're able to give teammates support items like health drops, or pass on intel.

The cartoon exaggeration of the original Plants vs. Zombies enhanced the inherent silliness of PopCap's beloved strategy game. Here is latest tease for the full-on 3D shooter spinoff, wherein a zombie militia erupts from the hideously carved mouth of a mountain to lay waste to a village of aggressive plants using what look like beach toys. Fingers crossed that the series' jump to a new dimension doesn't suggest a future Plants vs. Zombies game that's photorealistic. It would be terrifying.

Co-op is essentially horde mode, as it puts two players against increasingly difficult waves of zombies. Every few waves, players will have to deal with bosses, determined by a slot machine. "If you are lucky you may get a bonus, but it will usually be a variety of powerful zombies that will take everything you have to defend against," EA explained in their blog.

Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare producer Brian Lindley details the upcoming squad-based shooter's split-screen mode in the newly-launched video above, revealing that local cooperative play is exclusive to the Xbox One version of the game.

In Garden Warfare's co-op mode, players team up to defend a garden from an endless horde of invading zombies. Players can choose among multiple playable classes, giving them a wide variety of ability combinations and strategic options on the battlefield. The Xbox One version of Garden Warfare also boasts an exclusive Boss mode, which allows a third player to distribute power-ups during gameplay via Kinect or SmartGlass.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is due to hit the Xbox 360 and Xbox One in February.
