Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons Are Disconnecting, And No One Seems To Know Why
Teething troubles

In our case, the disconnections occurred outside of gameplay, but others are reporting that it's happening during The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The left Joy-Con disconnecting is quite a disaster in that particular game, as the left stick is of course used to control Link's movements. We've been playing mainly with the Pro Controller when using the TV, but even when using the Joy-Con in the grip for some sessions we haven't had a disconnect in-game.

GameXplain have attempted to "test" the issue, but bear in mind that Bluetooth technology has limited range and the presenter claimed to be sitting 10 feet away from the Switch, so we're not sure a solid answer is found here.

Nintendo Switch will not support one extremely popular accessory

Nintendo really needs the Switch to be a home run. With the utter failure of the Wii U and rapidly aging 3DS lineup, the company could really use a bit of luck and a whole lot of love in 2017. With so much riding on the Switch, you’d think Nintendo would have packed just about every standard bit of functionality into the system as possible, but it seems that just isn’t the case. A report from French news site Melty reveals that Nintendo has decided not to support wireless Bluetooth headsets, meaning that any personal audio you need at home or on the go will have to come with a cord.

Melty had previously reported that the Switch would fully support Bluetooth headsets, after an interview with Nintendo Switch designer Yoshiaki Koizumi. However, something must have been lost in translation, because the site has since retracted that report and clarified that the system will most definitely not support the (extremely popular) gaming accessory whatsoever.

It’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con controllers do indeed sync with the system via Bluetooth, and supporting functionality for Bluetooth headsets could potentially be added at some point down the road. If you’ve been a gamer for any length of time, you’ve probably heard that line from Nintendo before, but this could be one case where the feature actually materializes rather quickly, considering its ubiquitousness. We’ll have to wait and see what Nintendo has planned in the immediate wake of the system’s March 3rd release date.

I thought the Switch's USB-C charging port would mean I could use any standard external battery pack to charge the system away from an outlet on long trips. Testing with the Jackery Titan S, though, I was only able to get a trickle charge of about 1 percent every six minutes. That charge was so weak that, during normal gameplay, the Switch actually died on me while it was still plugged in to the external battery pack.

This could just be an issue of Voltage—the packaged wall outlet is rated for 15V/2.6A, while the battery pack is only rated at 5V/3A—or it might be an issue with confusing USB-C charging standards. In any case, don't expect perfect compatibility with third-party chargers.

While we're talking about charging, let me just say that the decision to put the charging port on the bottom of the system is a horrible one. This means the system is impossible to charge when it's propped up on the kickstand (unless you have a table with a convenient hole in it). Even if you're holding the system in your hands, the charging cable sticks out awkwardly, preventing you from resting the system comfortably on your chest, legs, etc. Even if the design makes the system easier to use with the included dock, it's pretty annoying.
