  SCEA 於日前所舉辦的「Sony Gamers Day 2007」活動中,釋出了預定年底發行的 PS3 原創動作冒險遊戲《秘境:德雷克的寶藏(Uncharted: Drake's Fortune)》多張新遊戲畫面與實際遊玩示範影片。

  《秘境:德雷克的寶藏》是由曾推出 PS《袋狼大冒險(Crash Bandicoot)》、PS2《Jak & Daxter》等知名遊戲系列作的開發商 Naughty Dog 所研發的動作冒險遊戲,以無人島秘境探險尋寶為題材。

  故事敘述為了尋找 16 世紀英國知名航海探險家 法蘭西斯‧德雷克(Sir Francis Drake)所流傳下來的寶藏,德雷克的子孫 南森‧德雷克(Nathan Drake)來到中太平洋的神秘島嶼,卻被來路不明的武裝分子所追殺。為了生存,德雷克與夥伴們於是起而對抗武裝分子,並解開隱藏於島上的駭人秘密。

  遊戲採用類似《古墓奇兵》的全 3D 動作方式進行,玩家將操作身手矯健的主角德雷克,在熱帶叢林與古代遺跡中探險,一面克服崎嶇惡劣的環境、解開隱藏於古代遺跡中的謎團、深入了解古代文明以及德雷克寶藏的絞K,一面透過快節奏的槍戰與搏擊,來對抗覬覦寶藏的野心家與武裝分子。

  遊戲特別強化角色的動作表現,透過 PS3 處理器 Cell 即時處理上千種不同動作模組,呈現出流暢且逼真的動作反應。不論是在各種地形地物上的移動、攀爬、跳躍、擺盪...等,或者是戰鬥時的靠牆、射擊、搏擊...等,都有著平順自然的轉換。並透過獨家研發的臉部動作系統來呈現豐富的臉部表情。

  遊戲使用 HDR 高動態光源、凹凸貼圖、視差貼圖、全域照明、即時陰影...等各種新一代 3D 繪圖技術,以及基於真實物理的水面波動 / 折射 / 反射處理,將遊戲舞台的熱帶叢林與古代遺跡等環境細緻逼真的呈現出來。同時並透過物理模擬來提供豐富的場景互動性,讓角色真正融入冒險舞台中。

  PS3《秘境:德雷克的寶藏》預定今年年底推出。

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune UK Preview
We get some rough and tumble in the jungle with Naughty Dog's beard-y Lara.

UK, June 29, 2007 - Hats off to LucasArts; it's had seventeen years to get Indiana Jones right in videogame form - and, by all accounts, it might just manage it next time around. Still, until then, we've got Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to look forward to. And frankly, when Uncharted is essentially what you'd get if Indiana Jones dragged it up in a Lara Croft frock, who can complain?

Even with Naughty Dog wisely replacing improbable chesty-ness for chisel-jawed charm in the form of Uncharted's amiable protagonist Nathan Drake though, there's no shaking the tang of Tomb Raider running right through the game. Admittedly, it's still early days yet and, with a mere twenty minute chunk of play under our belts, there's still plenty of time for Uncharted to step out of the shadow of Lara Croft.


Drake's a nimble little fella - despite concentration lapses in this early build.

If anyone can rise to the task though, it's Naughty Dog, with its rather fine pedigree of past hits hopefully indicative of Drake's ultimate quality. Right from the off too, signs are good, with our Uncharted experience opening with a beautifully orchestrated edge-of-the-seat action set-piece. As Nathan and obligatory hot lady-friend fly over the Pacific Ocean toward their tropical island destination - a sequence roughly twenty minutes into the final game, we're told - it's hard to find fault with Naughty Dog's simply gorgeous new game engine. Translucent clouds float serenely over an undulating ocean, light cascading across the water from behind the expansive island hideaway on the horizon.

More impressive still is the sheer polish in production values, even at this early stage. Music is suitably bombastic, voice-actors actually sound like they're acting - injecting our stars with genuine wit and warmth - plus animation and character detail is near impeccable. What's more, facial animation is simply incredible, with both leads emoting convincingly, lip-synching accurately and just exuding personality. If nothing else, Naughty Dog looks to have created a world of adventure you'll be glad to be lost in.


SIXAXIS motion-sensoring gets a workout as you balance on precarious ledges.

Quite whether that's actually going to be possible though at the moment is unclear. While Lara is practically synonymous with vast, labyrinthine levels, Drake's trek from his landing spot to the wreckage of his plane in the early build we played is a strictly linear affair. Hopefully things will open out in later levels but, currently, there's something disappointingly old-school about your progress. Despite, expansive vistas and promise of all manner of explorable nooks and crannies in amongst the gorgeously lush terrain, you're essentially forced along one narrow jungle corridor, with fallen logs and boulders determined to spoil your fun.

Thankfully, it's not something you've got too much time to dwell on given the number of enemy characters intent on putting a bullet through your head. On the basis of the level we played, combat plays just as integral a part as acrobatic exploration. As you traverse the island, you stumble across a wide array of weapons including shotguns, pistols and grenade. Luckily, given the stamina your opponents seem to possess in the face of gun fire, combat is a simple affair. Larger objects can be used as cover and holding down L1 switches to an over-the-shoulder, reticule view. From here, it's just a matter of getting your assailants in your sights then picking them with a couple of shots to the face - or kneecap or elbow, if you like watching their slightly daft rag doll physics.


Combat plays a big part in Uncharted - it's pretty challenging too.

With a tap of a button, it's also possible to dive and roll from cover to cover - something you'll need to do with relative frequency if enemies' tendency to sneak up behind you while you're otherwise occupied is anything to go by. If that happens though, you can also hit the R1 trigger for non-targeted firing or lob a few punches in their direction. If it's the latter though, timing is crucial - they'll duck and weave like a prize boxer, meaning wild flailing isn't likely to lead to victory.

So far then, we're impressed with the sauced up combat Naughty Dog has infused in Uncharted. Sadly, the same can't quite be said about Drake's other key quality - his acrobatic monkey-ing - at the moment. While we like the fluidity with which Drake can clamber up objects of all shapes and sizes with a press of a single button - automatically grabbing hold of nearby ledges after a jump - there were a few problems in this early build. Mainly, uneven boulders occasionally confused Drake, who'd adjust his leap to a hop while we were trying to clear a wide chasm to reach safety. The upshot was way too long spend enduring death animations as he bobbed and floated his way over a waterfall to his doom - obviously, it's a bad thing when you know you've timed your jump perfectly and failure is entirely down to the game. Likewise, there were a handful of occasions when Drake utterly failed to recognise a nearby ledge, sending him plummeting to his unfortunate doom.


Almost all objects can be used as cover. You'll need it when the bullets start flying.

Still, we have every confidence that Naughty Dog will smooth these irritations out as development progresses. Right now though, it's difficult to assess how well Uncharted will hold up against Crystal Dynamics's sterling platform puzzle work on the Tomb Raider franchise. Definitely, there's plenty of promise with many areas we played involving a good deal of exploration and observation before the path forward was revealed.

In fact, that pretty much sums up Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for us at the moment, the game positively dripping with promise, despite some early build niggles. Naughty Dog has completely nailed the pulp '50s action-adventure atmosphere, with its likeable cast of characters and exotic locales and we have full confidence in the developer's ability, based on its past achievements. By all accounts, Uncharted is shaping up to be an incredibly slick, engaging action platformer for PlayStation 3. We can't wait to see more.

World Exclusive Interview with Naughty Dog - Massive New Details Uncharted Drakes Fortune

Interview of Christophe Balstre, co-president of Naughty dog. He accepted to answer all our questions. On the game itself, of course, but also on the destiny of the ps3. Appreciate at their true value those revelations highly colorful that confirms the wildest dreams on the queen console.

This is a direct translation of the original French magazine and contains some errors

Q : Until now, we have only seen the jungle, are there going to be other environments/locations in the game ?
CB : Be cool, the game includes many other locations. there is for instance un Spanish fortress and some old temples. The jungle being the location the hardest to modelize, we spent a huge amount of time on it at the beginning of the development’s. this is why the main part of th communication was made on this one.

Q : will there be a Multiplayer mode ?
CB : No, there will not be multiplayer. On the other side, there will be online. In fact, this is a kind of ranking system that allow measures of the performances of gamers. For instance, finishing a level in the shortest possible Tim, or killing a maximum of enemies.

Q : Will we be free since th beginning of the adventure or the progression will be linear ?
CD : The progression remains linear as we wanted to privilege the action and rythm. But, you will be able to come back at any moment to gathers some wepaons or for the pleasure of admiring the settings. However, some events may prevent you from visting back some parts of the island.

Q : Will drake have some special powers
CB : No, Nathan has no special power. We wanted him to remain human. However, this is a very energertic human. he can for instance do some impressive jumps with slow mo effects and adequate camera angles and he masters guns like a god. But nothing that makes him over-human.

Q : Is Nathan a vulgar treasure hunter or does he turn out to be an Indiana Jones kind of adventurer ?
CB : Nathan is a treasure hunter, as sir Francis. Even if he often uses force and that he’s attracted by precious materials, he’s still a good guy. He is not greedy for money, drake mainly wants to find its true identity. You already know that he owns a Sir Francis jewel, a silver ring. His journey will make him know if he’s the true descendant of the famous sailor. We could say that this is a identity quest.

Q : on this matter, why having used th Sir Francis story ?
CB : We haven’t decided to create drake’s fortune from Sir Francis Story. In reality, we wanted to work on a paradise island with a hero of the kind of Drake. Going back and forth, we arrived at the point where we it sounded interesting to include Sir Francis history in the scenario of the game.

Q : Can we expect a trilogy as for Jak & Daxter ?
CB : Our goal is to create an universe as coherent than exciting. Even if we don’t have in mind the number of episodes in mind, it is certain that Drake’s Fortune will get a sequel. This is for the main reason that the development of the first opus is so long, as the bases must be really strong so the adventure can continue, and more so justified.

Q : we can’t refrain from asking you : where have Jak & Daxter gone ?
CB : (laugh) We love Jak & Daxter! Even thinking about our two friends on next gen give us some thrilling. this said, the development of Drake’s fortune is extremely heavy; And we can’t afford to further scatter ourselves. But don’t worry, we think about it !

Q : Drake massively looks like Jason Rudin, ex-CEO of Naughty Dog. Is it a tribute ?
CB (laugh). No, Jason Rubin did not inspire us to create Drake, in anyway, not consciously. In fact, some have already told us that he looks like other people here at Naughty Dog. I think drake has a pretty common look, and this is why we find some lookalike with other people.

Q : is Drake’s fortune using the full ps3 potential ?
CB : Truly speaking, i think we only use 30% of the cell capacities. When we started the development of the game, we worked on PC without still knowing the exact potential of the console. Let just tell you that we had a heavy hand ! Once we started to really develop on the console, we were stunned by so much power. Moreover, as we are curently pursuing development, we are still impressed by the possibilities offered to us.

Q : According to you, do the playstation 3 has some serious chances to bury the xbox360 ?
CB : I think that if today the difference between xbox360 and ps3 is slim, you must expect a real technical jump in the coming years. Sony has engineered a wonderful console; let’s just tell you i love it !

Q : Can we expect a full HD / 60 fps version ?
CB : Drake’s fortune will be 720p and 30 fps; We started development on this base and what is important for us, is that action and realization is on par with our targets. And i think that once immersed in the adventure, this norms are good enough. But this does not mean that our future productions will be on these norms.

I don't think game from Naughty Dog will be a黑馬遊戲 la -- Crash bandicoot and Jak & dexter are very high profile game. And they are very Good on Steaming engine in PS2. Very strong , high skill programmer team indeed

Uncharted gets firm US date (News)

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will be released on 20th November in the US and is still down for release this Christmas in Europe.

That's according to game director Amy Hennig, addressing the world (well, Ellie) earlier today in Croatia, and confirms the date carried by US retailers.

Uncharted, which is developed by the Jak & Daxter scribes at Naughty Dog, puts players on the path of the fabled treasure of El Dorado, and is seen as one of Sony's key PS3 exclusives in the run-up to Christmas.

Hennig also told journalists that the game is "about a week" away from going beta internally, which bodes well for its prospect of getting out the door in two months' time.
