[XBLA] Super Meat Boy (已配信 | 1200msp) - 高難度2D ACT

XBLA今日出, 睇Trailer 好似都幾 "juicy"......

Super Meat Boy 'on sale' for 800 MS points at launch
by Alexander Sliwinski (14 hours ago)

For as long as Super Meat Boy remains fresh in Xbox Live Arcade's refrigerated aisles, it will be "on sale" for 800 Microsoft points ($10). That's 33 percent off the regular 1200 MSP price. The sale will be for a "limited time only," so once Meat Boy starts smelling a little funky, he'll go back up to the originally intended price. Look for the game this Wednesday, October 20.

As we noted in our review, the game will put you through the grinder. So, take those five dollars you saved and invest in some tissues, 'cause you'll need something to wipe away the tears when Super Meat Boy carves off your rump and hands it to you.

Super Meat Boy XBLA patch near completion, includes 20 new levels

by James Ransom-Wiley (14 hours ago)

Team Meat is wrapping up the Super Meat Boy patch that addresses the auto-save glitch and, in fact, "all known bugs" in the Xbox Live Arcade game. The free title update will also include 20 new levels and a new music track, Team Meat tweets, and it's expected to be completed this week and "hopefully will be up soon" (pending Microsoft's approval). Also, if for some really stupid reason you haven't picked up the game yet -- those few bugs be damned -- the launch sale is still "going for another week" (from yesterday).

In other Meat Boy news: The Steam release for PC is still being targeted for the last week of November (with the Mac version coming "after" that). Over the past few days, Team Meat has peppered the @SuperMeatBoy feed with irresistible morsels plucked from the Steam game: 30-plus achievements, "most rejected by MS for their difficulty"? Check! Level editor? You betcha. Mr. Minecraft and five additional "exclusive" characters that'll make you change your pants? Uh-huh -- and that's not even counting the returning warp zone unlockables. Yeah but, how about a launch sale for this Steam version? No doubt.

Okay, that does it! We're buying Super Meat Boy ... again. Yes, "buy em both!" agrees Team Meat. "2 almost identical games for 1/3rd the price of Fallout New Vegas! So worth it .... (no seriously it's worth it)."

Super Meat Boy XBLA update submitted, more PC characters teased

by Richard Mitchell on Nov 11th 2010 3:20PM

Team Meat has posted a rather lengthy update on all things Super Meat Boy. First, the upcoming update for the XBLA version of the game "is being submitted" to Microsoft and the team hopes it will be available by November 21. The update should fix all known bugs in the game, wipe out all 0.0 clear times from the Xbox Live leaderboards and add a new music track. It will also add 20 new levels to 'Teh Internets,' all designed exclusively for the sticky black ball of goo, Gish. Entitled "The Sewers of Dross," the levels range from "medium to soul crushing" in difficulty.

On the PC front, Team Meat has revealed the silhouette of another exclusive character. We're not sure who it is, though it kinda looks like Penny Arcade's Fruit F**ker without any legs (we'd hate to imagine what his special ability would be). Team Meat also dropped a few hints on the remaining characters: "one of them sticks, one of them dashes, one of them changes form and one of them isn't organic." Finally, the team hopes to release the PC version of Super Meat Boy in the last week of November. The level editor -- including "some kind of portal enabling players to easily view and rate user made levels" -- should follow in December.

Super Meat Boy's 'Sewers of Dross' DLC now available, Team Meat details five more additions

by Ben Gilbert (9 hours ago)

Teh Internets" of Super Meat Boy got an additional 20 levels of precision platforming madness this morning, with "The Sewers of Dross." The free pack features Gish as the only playable character, leading the character-specific DLC charge for SMB. Free DLC chapters made specifically for Commander Video and The Kid will also be made available in early 2011, along with a "best of" user-submitted level pack, featuring 20 levels created by PC/Mac players.

Two non-character-specific DLC packs will arrive via "Teh Internets" in December: Meat Boy (a retro chapter "based on the best of the Meat Boy flash prototype") and I Meat Boy (a pack of remixed levels from the main game, made more difficult). As Team Meat's Edmund McMillen explains in the comments of the announcement post, some of these DLC packs will be available on PC and Mac as well, but some (TSoD, for example) won't make it due to exclusivity agreements with Microsoft -- Gish is exclusive to Xbox 360.Super Meat Boy (The Sewers of Dross DLC)

Super Meat Boy WiiWare canceled, retail 'looking grim'
by Richard Mitchell on Dec 23rd 2010 5:30PM

The saga of the WiiWare version of Super Meat Boy has come to an abrupt, disappointing end, with Team Meat tweeting today that the project has been canceled altogether. The team is still considering retail, but adds that the possibility is "also looking grim." We've contacted Team Meat for further comment. Keep an eye here for updates as we get them.

New Super Meat Boy hub world, level editor and portal coming next month

by David Hinkle (1 hour ago)

While we already knew a level editor was on the way for the PC version of Super Meat Boy, news that it will also add an online portal for the custom levels is, um, news! Additionally, both the PC and Xbox Live Arcade versions will soon be updated with a new hub-world chapter, which will be home to new levels uploaded by Team Meat. All the new content is expected to be released mid-January, according to the developer.

The PC-only online portal will catalog all user-created maps (created with the level editor, of course) and allow players to rate them and sort them based on a variety of criteria, says Team Meat. As for the new hub-world chapter, dubbed "Super Meat World," it will unlock as a destination prior to the first chapter (The Forest) on the chapter select screen once the player has collected 20 bandages.

"Super Meat World" will behave a bit differently on each platform. On both XBLA and PC, this world will become the default destination for all new levels uploaded to the game by Team Meat (but not "Teh Internets" world, which will continue to reside in its own spot and even get some additional level love via this impending update) and will gain levels designed specifically for some of the hidden characters in the game. Also, Team Meat says that while a level editor won't be gracing XBLA, it will upload "all compatible user made level packs that we deem 'awesome'" to the XBLA's "Teh Internets" world.

On the PC, "Super Meat World" gets an additional exclusive feature: an "Enter the Unknown" area which will feature a dynamic playlist of random, highly-ranked, custom maps made by the community each time you play. Players will need only to choose a level of difficulty at the outset on PC, then they'll be thrust into multiple levels that meet both the rating prerequisite and toughness level chosen.

原來係wiiware game size上限問題.

Team Meat explains what went wrong with WiiWare's Super Meat Boy
by Ludwig Kietzmann on Dec 24th 2010 4:00PM

If Super Meat Boy were to launch on WiiWare today, it would have no leaderboards, no Dark World levels and no support for downloadable additions. Boss fights and cutscenes would have no musical accompaniment, and only six music tracks (including just one for retro-themed levels) would be present. In the words of designer Edmund McMillen, it would be "a piece of shit version of Super Meat Boy."

When McMillen and programmer Tommy Refenes, who together form Team Meat, tested a version of their loopy platformer that could fit under the (previously disputed) 40MB file-size limit imposed by Nintendo's WiiWare service, they weren't satisfied with the compromises and decided to cancel it. "There is no way to avoid the fact that if we released a 40MB version of Super Meat Boy it would be a shit version of the game," McMillen told Joystiq. "It's a lose lose situation, but the fact of the matter is if we release a shitty game, we will have to live with that for the rest of our careers and have to cop to the fact that it is a shitty game."

Having grown in size and ambition since it was announced for WiiWare in early 2009, the Super Meat Boy of today would have to shed several features -- picked up on the way to Xbox Live Arcade, PC and Mac -- before it could circle back to Wii. Team Meat wasn't going to budge and, contrary to their early assumption, neither was Nintendo.

"We knew of the limits early on but overestimated our ability to get Nintendo to raise the file size," McMillen said. "It's lame that there is a 40MB cap on WiiWare games ... but it was our fault for blindly assuming this cap wasn't set in stone, and we are sorry for that." McMillen added that the team's finances would take a hit after the file-size showdown, but it wouldn't wither their support of Nintendo platforms in the future.

Team Meat has sought some breathing room on a Wii retail disc, but at least three publishers find third-party success stories a bit too rare. "We assumed our options would be good, and they might get better now that we have won some awards," McMillen said. "Right now we have talked to three larger publishers who have passed on the title because they believe Wii retail is a bad idea profit wise. Most places we have talked to believe that only Nintendo brand games sell well on their system and don't even understand why we want to release Wii retail." McMillen and Refenes will still stalk some smaller publishers, but have expressed concern over the attitudes they've encountered thus far.

There'll be plenty of attitude coming at them from disappointed day-one fans, but McMillen believes they'll understand or play the game on a different platform. And take this advice about assumptions: "Don't let this or the fact that SMB isnt releasing on PS3 or Wiiware fool you into thinking we don't [love] Sony or Nintendo, we love them all," he said. "If we had the ability the game would be released on ALL systems, but it just doesn't seem like that was in the cards this time."

When asked if Super Meat Boy's problematic squishing crisis could have been foreseen back in 2009, Edmund gave us this answer: "Probably, honestly we got so lost in making a cool game we totally forgot about how strict the limitations for the Wii were, we just wanted to make something huge and the game got a little out of control." It's that out-of-control nature -- regardless of WiiWare's limitations -- that has made Super Meat Boy a favorite among critics in 2010.

出左patch

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/su...els-to-follow/

If you envision Microsoft's nebulous certification process as a sadistic Super Meat Boy level -- some lava pits here, a few saw blades everywhere -- you may understand why a tiny weakling of a file, less than 1MB in size, spent over 3 months attempting to survive the gauntlet unscathed. Yes, the Super Meat Boy patch, which should cover up all of the squishy protagonist's oozing faults (including that auto-save glitch), is now available on Xbox Live Arcade. Just launch the game to download it automatically.

XBLA Super Meat Boy injected with fan created and remixed levels next week
by Richard Mitchell (2 hours ago)

The XBLA version of Super Meat Boy continues to ride the free DLC train, as Team Meat is planning to release another batch of levels. In fact, two sets of levels are expected. The first is a set of "expert remix" levels from the original game. Yes, Team Meat done gone and made twenty of the game's levels even harder -- including the first level of "The Kid." The team is also planning to release the first user-created level pack.

While no solid release date has been set, the team hopes to have them up sometime "next week." You can see a list of all the expert remix levels right here. We suggest you take a few deep, calming breaths first.

似乎同M$合作得唔係幾愉快......

話M$原本應承左佢地, 推出果個星期:
- 只會得佢地1隻新XBLA game.
- dashboard spotlight 頭一格會推介SMB
結果都無兌現到.

後來M$又話如果銷量好會加多D宣傳, 結果都係無左聲氣.

P.S. SMB 現時 XBLA + Steam 總銷量達40萬.

Meat Boy dev attacks Microsoft support

Team Meat, the indie studio behind hit platformer Super Meat Boy, has launched a bitter attack on Microsoft for not following through on marketing promises it made for the game's Xbox Live Arcade launch.
Speaking at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco today, co-CEO Tommy Refenes explained that, as part of the platform's Game Feast promotion last October, Super Meat Boy had been promised the release schedule to itself for the week.
However, as it turned out, Double Fine's Costume Quest was added to their launch week at the last minute.
"We were just like 'what the f***? Everyone else gets a free week except for us?'," recalled co-founder Tommy Refenes.
When Refenes turned on his 360 on launch day, things got worse. Team Meat had been told the game would get top billing in the Spotlight feed on the Xbox 360 dashboard, but there was no sign of any promotion for the title whatsoever.
In a state of panic, he immediately fired off an email to the studio's producer at Microsoft.
"I was like 'What's the deal? Are you guys pulling out? Where's our stuff?'," he explained.
"It finally went up half way through our launch day. It was the number four spot; it wasn't number one. The 'spooktacular sale', which was a whole bunch of other games that already came out – that was the number one slot.
"An ad for a Mazda 3 was the number two slot – because you all go on Xbox to figure out what car you want, right?
"We were number four and we stayed number four the entire week," he continued.
Microsoft then apparently told Team Meat that the better the game performed, the more promotion it would receive. However, despite outselling other Game Feast titles Comic Jumper and Hydrophobia by a significant margin, and racking up great reviews, no further marketing support came.
"We just kind of got pushed to the side, and that's basically how the Xbox Live launch went. The only reason the game sold well was because of how we promoted it. The help from Microsoft was there in a very limited capacity," Refenes insisted.
"It's not supposed to hurt your feelings because it's business, but it totally f***ing hurt my feelings. Me and Ed just killed ourselves trying to get this game done and now we're just pushed to the side.
"It was a f****** mindf***," added the other half of Team Meat, Edmund McMillen.
"It was really confusing. At that point I think we were so f***** up in our heads from development, it almost felt like 'are these people out to get us? What's happening here? Did we do something wrong? Are they trying to screw us because we did something wrong?'"
Later on in the presentation, McMillen tempered the attack a little, insisting that "working with the creative side of Microsoft was great".
"Everybody that we could talk to were great; the people who we couldn't talk to were the problem. So everyone who we worked with was wonderful. Everyone who was making decisions, not so much."
Thankfully for Team Meat, there was a happy ending. The Steam launch went much more smoothly, with PC sales easily outstripping those on Xbox 360. Refenes revealed that the game is now closing in on 400,000 sales across all platforms.
