[XB360,PS3]Terra Formations
Terra Formations announced
2006-03-19 14:56:44 by Manager http://www.xboxyde.com/news_2671_en.html Irish Star Cave Studios has officially announced Terra: Formations, planned for a release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game has been quite a buzz during the latest conventions, and as the developers still are looking for a publisher there is no release date set. Terra is a MMOFPSRTSRPG - yeah, all that stuff in one game. The story is set in 2157, and as a player you have to choice to either run on the battlefield (FPS) and expand your stats (RPG) or be the commander (RTS) to rule the field. First image inside, and remember - as the studio opened in summer 2004, they probably are in early development. |

Terra: Formations (PS3)
Published by: *TBA Developed by: Cellien Studios / Star Cave Studios Genre: First-Person Action Number of Players: 1 Release Date: US: TBA 2007 Star Cave Announces Next-Gen FPS ...Or is "Terra: Formations" an RTS, an RPG, or an adventure? by Jeremy Dunham http://ps3.ign.com/articles/699/699786p1.html April 3, 2006 - Chock this up as an announcement that slipped through the cracks during the busy build-up to last month's Game Developers Conference. Sometime in the weeks before the show, the multi-continent development conglomerate known as Star Cave Studios (which has production houses in Ireland, Australia, and Austin, Texas) confirmed that is has a brand new first-person shooter in the works. Originally intended as a PC title but now planned to be ported to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well, Terra: Formations is the latest FPS to hit the next generation. Unlike most first-person shooters, however, Formations aims for a unique edge -- by offering real-time strategy and role-playing elements on top of its blasting components. Star Cave even claims that there will be adventuring segments to boot. Players in Terra: Formations will begin as members of an elite military force whose mission is to "reshape the environments of inhospitable worlds." There will be four character classes in all: Soldiers (action-based warriors played in the traditional FPS perspective), Engineers (who will repair and construct various structures), Researchers (researches the world's unique tools and developers new technology), and Commanders (which is assumed via an RTS-style interface). An early FPS shot from Terra: Formations Additional gameplay details are still rather scare, but Star Cave and subsidiary Cellien Studios has elaborated a bit on the story. Here's the setup, word-for-word, from the IP's creators: "By the year 2157, mankind had depleted the resources of planet earth with his lust for power, technological advancements and greed. Ironically, the very machines that played a role in mankind's irrevocable position were the only chance of survival! After several years of uncertainty, hope was reborn with the efforts of the Global Military Alliance to Terraform one of earth's celestial neighbors, Jupiter's moon called 'Europa'. It wasn't until the excavation of the satellite's icy crust that mankind learned the truth; he was not alone and something, somewhere, was waiting, watching, learning and preparing for battle!" Remaining details about Terra: Formations is still being kept under wraps. But Cellien Studios does have plans to attend E3 in some manner next month in Los Angeles, so it's possible that we'll learn more about the game then. In the meantime, be sure and check out the media page below for the first screenshots and video of Terra in action. |
