Sunderland and Stoke to pounce for Dawson after QPR switch hits snag

Sportsmail exclusively revealed how the Loftus Road club had submitted an offer, understood to be worth up to £10million, to Tottenham for the central defender.

Spurs have accepted QPR's offer but there were fears on Wednesday evening that the deal would collapse.

Overnight on Monday, Stoke and Sunderland both expressed a firm interest in landing Dawson and Sportsmail understands both clubs are providing serious competition to Rangers' attempts to complete a deal.

TOTTENHAM have been told to up their bid for Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris.

The north London side have already had an offer for the France international rejected this summer, with the Ligue 1 side expecting Spurs to try again for the stopper before the end of the transfer window.

But chairman Daniel Levy will have to stump a lot more cash if he hopes to land the 25-year-old, according to Lyon sporting adviser Bernard Lacombe.

"As he started the championship with us, Lloris is perhaps less likely to go. We hope so. Unless there is a very important proposal for him and for us," he told L'Equipe.

"Their proposal was below the quality of our goalie."

Tottenham have submitted a new bid for Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, with Andre Villas-Boas’s summer overhaul of his squad continuing to gather pace on Wednesday.

With a £5 million deal for Emmanuel Adebayor concluded, Villas-Boas still wants one more striker and has been tracking Damiao all summer. At least one bid has already been rejected by Internacional, who value the Brazilian at £20million.

The arrival of Damiao, who represented Brazil at the Olympics, would place a fresh question mark over the future of Jermain Defoe who wants regular first-team football and does not appear to fit with the one-striker system that Tottenham are likely to play.

Villas-Boas has already talked about 19-year-old Harry Kane as a young forward who could also push for a place but the decision is likely to be left with Defoe.

Mourinho said a spell in England at a top club – expected to be Arsenal – would improve the 23-year-old Sahin as a player.

"It can teach him particular characteristics of play that he doesn't have at the moment," Mourinho said of the midfielder. "I couldn't care less if he goes to Arsenal, or Liverpool or Tottenham. I have no preference.

Rangers were reported to have had a £9million offer accepted for the England centre-half on Tuesday but the deal appears to have hit a snag.

Now Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas insists he will not be upset if Dawson, 28, remains at White Hart Lane.

"I had an open chat with Michael, I explained we have five central defenders here," said Villas-Boas.

"But he’s a great professional and if he is still here at the end of the transfer window it will be a privilege for me."

"I spoke to his agent two days ago and the conversations have been extremely productive, the player is a player I have immense confidence in," said Villas-Boas of Defoe, who scored in Spurs' opening-day defeat at Newcastle last Saturday.

Spurs have been linked with moves for both Internacional striker Leandro Damiao and Shakhtar Donetsk forward Willian, but neither is likely to arrive before the August 31 deadline, said Villas-Boas.

"Leandro is a fantastic player that I know of," said Villas-Boas of the Brazilian. "I went to see him in Brazil when I was doing nothing [during the summer]!

"He is obviously a good, good player but he is not on our prospect at the moment, because I think we are closed on what we are trying to do with the strike situation."

Asked about a reported offer being put in for Willian, Villas-Boas added: "No. He is a player I was interested in last year, an extremely talented player. I wouldn't want to go very deep because I feel it would be disrespectful for Shakhtar, which is a club I have a good relationship with.

"In that sense the only thing I can tell you is that last year when I was at Chelsea I was interested in the player and I appreciate his qualities."

Villas-Boas also commented on the latest news with regards to Luka Modric's protracted move to Real Madrid.

"The situation is in the chairman's hands," he said. "The chairman has told me that the talks are ongoing, they are making some progress but the situation can be solved in the next couple of days.

"At the moment, as I told you before, he continues to train apart and it will be like that until the end of the transfer window, I guess."

Tottenham are planning to spend £50million on players before the transfer window slams shut next week, and have identified six top targets to bring to White Hart Lane.

The club have made enquiries for as many as ten players, with manager Andre Villas-Boas keen to add at least two midfielders and a goalkeeper.

According to the Sunday Mirror, there are six names at the top of the club's wish list, which is headed by classy midfielders Joao Moutinho and Willian.

Shakhtar Donetsk have already held talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over a deal for Brazilian midfielder Willian, while Porto ace Moutinho is another target.

If bids to land the pair fail, Villas-Boas wants to raid London neighbours Fulham for Moussa Dembele.

Raul Meireles of Chelsea, Yann M'Vila of Rennes and Malaga's Isco are back-up options.

Spurs are also desperate to bring in a new number one and France international Hugo Lloris seems the most obvious candidate.

However, if the club are unable to lure him to White Hart Lane for a fee of up to £11million, they will turn to Roma's Maarten Stekelenburg.

CLUB ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH REAL MADRID AND TRANSFER OF LUKA MODRIC

The Club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club.

The partnership agreement will see the two Clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.
