(May 6, 2005) -- Word from a little birdy who had a chance to play Perfect Dark Zero at an MTV Event.
Xbox 360?Though our source was under some non-disclosure limitations, he agreed to reveal some of the details to us under the condition of anonymity. As a result, we learned a number of different details about the sequel and Xbox 360 Launch title. Perfect Dark Zero can be best summed up as combination of Counter Strike's team-based gameplay and Splinter Cell's spy/stealth features. At Joanna's disposal will be over 22 weapons, including the return of the remote Laptop gun as well as a new invisibility gun. New to the Perfect Dark universe are personal teleporters, jetpacks, and a slew of spy gadgets. The graphics do not look like the early concept renders of Joanna, but rather realistic graphics that land somewhere in between Half-Life and Halo. Apparently the reps at the event also scanned in the entire body of one the other lucky attendees and put them in the game. Our source wasn't able to tell us with absolute certainty that this feature would available to anyone in the final game, so it could end up being a similiar case to that of the Gameboy Camera and Perfect Dark on the N64. However, we have heard pretty concrete rumors that the Xbox 360 will come with a USB camera for use on Xbox Live, so this may very well be a final production feature. Look for this MTV Event to be televised this Thursday at 9:30pm on, where else, MTV or on CTV in Canada.

What happens when you kindly ask guests not to leak top secret information about one of the most anticipated pieces of gaming hardware? Well, it gets leaked.

In an Xbox Live interview with Gamertagradio.com, members of all-girl gaming clan (and Xbox Live marketing tool) PMS, an acronym for "Psychotic Man Slayez," spoke about their experiences at the taping of the Xbox 360 unveiling in Los Angeles last Thursday. Aside from dancing around some of the basic specs of the system and gloriously touting the next-gen console's features, the ladies got around to talking about the only playable game on display, Rare's Perfect Dark Zero.

Perfect Dark Zero has been a sort of Sasquatch in the gaming industry. It's been widely reported that it exists, in some form or another, but Rare has never come clean about the game. Back in 2001, a company rep hurriedly stated that the game was "out there," but four years later, no official information has yet emerged.

When Microsoft bought Rare in 2002, many thought a Perfect Dark sequel would land on the Xbox. But, if what the PMS members say is true (which Microsoft and Rare won't confirm), Perfect Dark Zero is in its alpha stage and will be shining on the next-generation Xbox.

According to the attendees of the unveiling, Perfect Dark Zero is shaping up to be a "must-own" first-person shooter for the forthcoming console. Comparisons to popular PC and Xbox title Counter-Strike were made, both in terms of gameplay and graphics, with the addition of "Splinter Cell-type functions," implying that spy gadgetry will play a large part in the game.

Among the "like, over 22" weapons discussed were the standard grenade launchers et al, a gun that makes players invisible, and "any kind of thing that your trigger finger would feel comfortable shooting." One gamer goes on to detail what reps were calling "jetpacks," but they sound more like personal flying vehicles.

Respawn points will be selectable, implying that gamers who die in combat won't be stranded on the other end of the map in team-based games, as is the case in such games as Halo 2. Instead, players will be able to choose from a selection of points, letting players jump right back into the fray instead of hoofing it across the map.

The most interesting detail of Perfect Dark Zero dealt with the integration of the rumored EyeToy-like camera into the game. According to the gamers, one participant had her entire body scanned by a camera-like peripheral, and the image was used as the player's in-game avatar in the multiplayer mode.

Whether these reports are actually true won't be known until more information on the game is released. Don't look forward to seeing the game in action this Thursday on MTV, though, because according to a PMS gamer, Perfect Dark Zero won't be shown on the program.

The original Perfect Dark was a first-person shooter on the Nintendo 64 that received excellent reviews from both critics and gamers alike. The game starred superspy Joanna Dark on a near-future Earth rife with alien contact and corporate conspiracies.

May 10, 2005 - Yesterday we reported on the recent leakage of the first Perfect Dark Zero information. The news came from the Gamertagradio.com after they posted an audio interview with a few gamers -- including members of Xbox Live's all-girl PMS Clan. This was one of the many tidbits of info to escape from the taping of Microsoft's Xbox 360 MTV special. You can read the complete article including all of the recent speculation about the new Perfect Dark here.

Today, more Perfect Dark information became available through Ourcolony.net. The site hooks visitors with cryptic blurbs of information, images, and some riddles. Gamers are encouraged to register with the site and either join a colony, or create their own. It is heavily emphasized that only players who work together and spread the message will be successful in advancing the game. The site features a leader board that awards points to colonies that sign up more members and answer questions correctly.

Fans of Halo 2 will remember the last 4orty2wo campaign that was based around Ilovebees.com. This URL was released along with the Halo 2 trailer in theaters and led millions of visitors on a wild goose chase. People who followed the game to its completion were given access to events on November 4th, where they were able to play Halo 2 before its release to the general public. 42 Entertainment's web site claims they create large scale "search operas," designed to cause consumers to look for the product.

The latest image to come from the site is a close-up shot of a woman's face. The red hair, blue eyes, and gun, reveal her to be the newly designed lead character from Rare's Nintendo 64 classic Perfect Dark. We have long speculated that Perfect Dark Zero would be showcased at this year's E3 and even listed it as our most anticipated game of E3 2005.

Many fans are applauding the more realistic depiction of Joanna when comparing it to the early anime style character art that was previously released.
