Bentley may quit Spurs - Redknapp

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has suggested that midfielder David Bentley could leave the club in the summer.

The 24-year-old signed for £15m from Blackburn last July but has gradually slipped down the pecking order since Redknapp took charge in October.

"David's going to look at it and think 'hang on, I'm not getting in the team even when Aaron Lennon's not fit. Maybe it is time I moved on'," he said.

Bentley has been an unused substitute in Spurs' last nine matches.

He has also not started a game for the club since 19 February when they played at Shakhtar Donestk in the Uefa Cup.

"As a person I like him very much, he's a good lad and a good player," added the Spurs boss.

"I've played differently and changed the way we've played a bit. I've had results so no-one can complain."

Meanwhile, Redknapp said Roman Pavlyuchenko's reaction to being substituted against Manchester City was "disrespectful".

The Russian stormed down the tunnel when he was replaced by Fraizer Campbell with 15 minutes left of the match and with the scores at 1-1.

Spurs went on to win the match 2-1 thanks to Robbie Keane's late penalty.

Redknapp appeared to clap sarcastically when the striker headed straight to the dressing room.

"I don't like that," said the Spurs boss. "The fans are here and paying their money to watch and when a player runs down the tunnel without sitting down and watching and getting behind the team, I think that is disrespectful to his team-mates."

My frustration - Roman

Roman Pavlyuchenko was critical of his own performance on Saturday, stressing that his reaction to being substituted was a mark of frustration at himself and not at being substituted.

The Russian international headed straight to the changing room following his withdrawal against Manchester City after 75 minutes.

"During the game I had a couple of chances to score but I didn't take those chances so I was angry at myself when I came off the pitch, not at the decision to replace me," explained Roman.

"I know it was not my best performance but I blame myself for that and nobody else.

"I did not mean to cause offence with my actions and I apologise to my team-mates, the coaching staff and the supporters, who have treated me so well since I arrived.

"To get the opportunity to show my appreciation to the fans during the walk round with my team-mates at the end of the game was a special moment. They have been so welcoming and supportive towards me .

"It is now up to me to go away and work on sharpening up in front of goal."

Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Jonathan Woodgate are doubts ahead of Sunday's final game of the season at Liverpool.

Left-back Benoit will undergo an assessment on a swollen knee, while fellow defender ‘Woody' is still struggling with the groin problem that forced him off in last weekend's victory over Manchester City.

Tom Huddlestone is recovering well after his knee operation earlier this week, but remains out along with Michael Dawson (ankle), Aaron Lennon (groin), Jamie O'Hara and Adel Taarabt (both knee).

On a brighter note, Darren Bent returned to training today following the knee injury he picked up in last month's defeat at Manchester United.

Defender Rocha released by Spurs
Portuguese centre-back Ricardo Rocha has been released by Tottenham after his contract expired.

The 30-year-old signed for £3.3m in January 2007 from Benfica, where he won the Portuguese Cup and league title.

But he suffered an ankle injury and made only 18 appearances, his last against Bolton in September 2007.

Spurs have also released reserve-team players Simon Dawkins, Kyle Fraser-Allen, Danny Hutchins, David Hutton, Jacques Maghoma and Takura Mtandari.

Former coach Chris Hughton's son Cian, who played for the reserves, and academy players Saulo Asajile, Mark Clare, James Dalton and Ajet Shehu are also set to leave.

Defender Bale has knee operation

Tottenham's Welsh international defender Gareth Bale has undergone knee surgery, which may mean he misses at least the start of pre-season training.

A scan of the 19-year-old's left knee revealed torn cartilage tissue, which had already forced him out of Wales's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.

The likely recovery period is about eight weeks.

Bale joined Tottenham from Southampton in May 2007 but his progress has been disrupted by a series of injuries.

In two years at the club, he has yet to play in a winning Spurs team in the Premier League, and this season he has fallen behind Benoit Assou-Ekotto in the pecking order.

Manager Harry Redknapp is expected to sell players in the summer to overhaul his squad, but Bale's injury means that if he were thought surplus to requirements, it could now be hard to sell him because of his enforced lay-off.
