At its gamers' day today, Konami gave a brief presentation on the upcoming entry in the popular Ys RPG franchise, Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. While the series has been immensely popular overseas, most of the entries have never made it to the US. The latest entry in the series was released late last year for the PC in Japan. However, the upcoming version of the game for the PlayStation 2 is slated to feature a number of improvements and additions.

The game will follow the adventures of Adol Christian and use the PC game as a base, but quite a bit of work is going into the PlayStation 2 game to make it more than a simple port. While still early in development, Konami reps stated that the game will feature new characters, additional stages, and new music. The graphics will feature new character models and anime cutscenes to showcase the characters and move the story along. Ys VI will also feature CG movies and artwork from previous Ys games. A video shown of the game showcased the rich world and character designs found in Ys VI, along with a wonderfully old school guitar-laden music track.

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim is slated to ship this winter for the PlayStation 2. Look for more information as it becomes available.
