動漫節玩過GT Sport 同Forza
唔論軚感
兩隻遊戲既操控感都好接近
不過畫面真是Forza較好
GT既畫面真是多年來都唔夠真實
背景好無生氣
Forza既畫面較豐富始終

GT無VR試真是一大敗筆

Porsche is Coming to iRacing

January 1st, 2017 by Jordan Greer

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup

Well, 2017 is certainly off to a good start!
Last month, we broke the story that Porsche’s exclusivity with Electronic Arts was expiring, and this first day of the new year brings with it news that the fabled manufacturer is coming to one of the most respected racing simulators on the market: iRacing.
iRacing made the announcement with a new trailer featuring the 911 GT3 Cup car, the mid-engined 2017 911 RSR, and the Le Mans-winning 2016 919 LMP1. The GT3 Cup car will be released later this month, and presumably the RSR and LMP1 will be coming later in 2017.
Porsche 911 RSR

Assuming that Ian Bell isn’t just teasing us about his next game, this means Porsche’s cars will be in almost all of today’s major racing franchises — iRacing, Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, and Forza. Gran Turismo is the big name obviously missing from that list, but with the contractual restrictions having finally melted away, that is probably about to change.
2016 Porsche 919 Hybrid

Kazunori Yamauchi is a big fan of the Stuttgart manufacturer, and has been eager to get their cars in his games for quite some time. “We actually have a good relationship with Porsche – and as soon as the situation with their contract changes, one of these days they’ll appear in Gran Turismo,” Kazunori said in a 2013 interview.
As always, we’ll be keeping a close eye on all the Porsche-related news across the sim-racing landscape. Watch for more iRacing coverage from GTPlanet as well, as we continue to expand our editorial coverage in 2017. Happy new year, everyone!

Gran Turismo Sport Gets the Green Flag on PS4
You knew this was coming. 2016 looked set to be GT Sport‘s year; the Forza series was on its arcade-racer alternate year, Project CARS support was winding down, and Assetto Corsa suffered a few speed bumps on its way to consoles. The one-two punch of the public beta being shelved in the first half of the year and the game being pushed to this year in the second means GT Sport will now be entering a crowded 2017 arena.
When exactly that will be is still up in the air. Contrary to some rumblings out of Sony South Africa, it’s looking incredibly unlikely we’ll be receiving the game this month. With the heavy focus on organized online racing via the afore-mentioned FIA partnership, perhaps a release closely aligned with the start of Spring (and the F1 season) is a possibility. There needs to be enough time to run a season before that awards ceremony in December, after all.
We know GT Sport will launch with 140 cars (though Kazunori has teased a much larger final total), 19 locations and 27 circuit layouts. Thanks to a presentation at PlayStation Experience last month, we know the game will feature full 4K and HDR support via PS4 Pro, as well as a dedicated “VR Tour” Mode. Dynamic time and weather may be gone, but Polyphony will be providing a smattering of pre-selected combinations at all circuits.
At the Copper Box reveal event — where our man Jordan had co-host duties — we saw the first hints of flags in the FIA Pre-Season Test. Creative types were overjoyed by the series-first inclusion of a livery editor at that same event, though it hasn’t been explored in greater detail since then. These features, alongside the TV-style replays the series is known for, will enable GT Sport to better resemble real-world motorsports than any GT title before it.
Due to this, Gran Turismo Sport still seems like one of the best vehicles (pardon the pun) to deliver driving game eSports to the masses. GT6 crossed the five million sales milestone last August, making it the best-selling realistic racing game since, well, Gran Turismo 5. GT Sport may represent the biggest change in the franchise’s two-decade history, but no other series boasts the name-recognition that comes with a 76-million strong sales background.

There you have it. The year has just begun, but on the evidence above, it could shape up to be the finest one yet for racing games. Have your own list? Share it!

Subaru’s Isle of Man Record Holder Coming to Future Gran Turismo Title?

January 12th, 2017 by Josh Steele

Amongst all the announcements, unveilings and showcases of the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Subaru brought along it’s record breaking WRX STI time-attack car. Piloted by Mark Higgins, the 600 bhp car shattered the the previous record — also set by Subaru — for the time set by a car on the Isle of Man TT circuit earlier last year.
Evident by his Instagram post, also there for the show was Polyphony Digital employee, Carter Jung. Mr. Jung didn’t speak much about his time at the auto show, instead keeping it to a sole post about the inclusion of the record-holding Subaru in a future Gran Turismo title.
Jung stated that the existence of the Gran Turismo stickers clad on the aggressive bodywork of the car confirm it’s existence within ‘the’ game. Whether he is referring to Polyphony Digital’s upcoming 2017 title, Gran Turismo Sport, or potentially scoping towards games further into the distance is yet to be told.
It must be said that this is not the first time such a sponsorship has taken place by Polyphony Digital, with notable examples being of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and Pikes Peak International Hill Climb both having Gran Turismosponsorship in common.
The relationship between Polyphony Digital and the 37.73-mile (60.72 km) Snaefell Mountain Course runs deeper than stickers on Higgins’ 2016 record-holder. Back in 2014, Polyphony Digital employees were spotted on the island, and a locals were advised a slow-moving service vehicles would be rounding the circuit over a two week period. The plot thickens…
With regards to the car itself, getting the seeming confirmation from an actual PD employee certainly piques our interest. We’ll be on the lookout for further proof of the car’s inclusion in the franchise.
Thanks for the tip, queleuleu!

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Now Available in iRacing

January 26th, 2017 by Calvin Kirstein

News first broke of Porsche coming to iRacing at the beginning of the month, but in recent tweet on the official iRacing Twitter account, it was announced that the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be coming to the game today.
The 911 GT3 Cup (991) is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.0 liter flat-six engine that produces 485 hp. No word as of writing how much the car costs in-game but one would suspect it’ll be the usual DLC asking price of $11.95.
We of course learned that Porsche’s long running and lucrative deal with Electronic Arts (EA) ended back in December of last year, and it hasn’t taken long for developers to take advantage.
Kunos Simulazioni, developer of Assetto Corsa, already has two Porsche-themed DLC packs on consoles available, with a third in the pipeline (and already playable on PC). Those PC players who own Assetto Corsa will be used to the GT3 Cup, as it was part of the third and final pack.
Project CARS 2 seems to be next in line, with the Porsche marque set to race onto the series in the near future. Presumably, it will appear day one—possibly “Septemberish”.
With Assetto Corsa, Project CARS and iRacing now on board, plus the Forza series, the question remains—will we see Porsche arrive in Gran Turismo Sport? So far, Ruf, the German manufacturer that produces cars on Porsche-provided chassis, has been as close as we’ve got to tasting pure Porsche action in Gran Turismo. Prior to GT6’s launch, Kazunori Yamauchi did say he was eager to bring the brand to GT, and that the two companies enjoy a “good relationship.”
Stay tuned to GTPlanet for more iRacing (and Porsche) news as it develops.

Pikes Peak Hill Climb May be Exclusively Licensed to the Gran Turismo Series

January 31st, 2017 by Brendan Rorrison

Coming to a Gran Turismo near you?

Pikes Peak has had a bit of a checkered history with the Gran Turismo franchise. The 12-mile hill climb made its first (and only) appearance—in a condensed form—in Gran Turismo 2 and since then has remained absent from the series. In what seems to becoming a common occurrence though, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb continues to threaten a return to the franchise thanks to an article by media outlet Eurogamer and a peculiar choice of words within.
The main focus of the piece is actually a preview of the recently announced DiRT 4 and details the direction the game will take when it releases June this year. GT’s name pops up during a section talking about the troubles being faced by Codemasters in terms of picking up licenses and using them within its titles.
Unsurprisingly, BigBen Interactive’s WRC series is pinpointed as a reason why no official rally stages are included within the game but we also get confirmation that Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will not be returning.
The track appeared in 2015’s critically-acclaimed DiRT Rally so there must have been a legitimate reason for it’s exclusion and according to the article, it’s a biggie: “Gran Turismo now has sole rights to Pikes Peak,” says Eurogamer’s Martin Robinson.
It’s certainly a shock to see this written in plain sight. We’ve not yet had any confirmation of the track appearing in this year’s Gran Turismo Sport, and the track hasn’t appeared in the series for nearly two decades. In a very similar circumstance, Red Bull claimed Pikes Peak would appear in Gran Turismo 5 way back in 2010. This was unfounded and the track did not appear in the finished title, nor in its 2013 successor.
In May last year however, Kazunori Yamauchi provided a statement of intent that he wished to include the track within the series at some point. The GT founder didn’t mention any sort of time-frame for the track to be included but perhaps the delay announced last year was partly influenced by the acquisition of the Pikes Peak license?
We’ll not know for sure until Pikes Peak is formally addressed by Polyphony Digital—given the situation, we’d advise taking the above quote with a pinch of salt.
Pikes Peak’s last video-game appearance was in DiRT Rally and will not be returning to the series in the next entry…

Exclusivity deals aren’t universally agreed to be a positive aspect of the racing genre. Whilst the argument can be made that holding the rights ensures an accurate representation of the acquisition in question, Gran Turismo fans can vouch that this isn’t always the case with GT5’s lackluster WRC and NASCAR showings being a prime example.
EA held the rights for Porsche and as such limited the German manufacturer’s game appearances greatly. When the licensing deal expired, fans of the genre rejoiced and look to a more Porsche-inclusive future.
With no definitive confirmation of Eurogamer and Codemasters’ claim, it seems we’ll have to wait in order to see the full extent of Gran Turismo’s partnership with Pikes Peak outside of sponsoring the real-life event. We’ll cover any further developments as they come in.
Thanks to GTPlanet user GranTurismo guy for bringing this to our attention in the forums!

Polyphony Digital Expands Hiring Search To English Applicants

January 31st, 2017 by Ali Samy

Fancy working for one of Sony’s biggest first-party studios and the creators of Gran Turismo? If so, then you’re in luck, as Polyphony Digital recently updated its recruitment page with a variety of job positions. The full list is below:
  • UI Designer
  • GT Explore Studio
  • AI Engineer
  • Online Engineer
  • Graphics Engineer
  • Game Engine Development Engineer
  • Game Script Engineer
  • Sound Development Engineer
  • Mobile Application Engineer
  • Internal Tool Development Engineer
  • Car Simulation Development Engineer
  • Physics Engine Development Engineer
  • CG Artist
  • Technical Artist
It’s worth noting that this time Polyphony is looking for those who are proficient in English, and the listings state that accepted candidates will work in Polyphony’s Japanese studios in Fukuoka and Tokyo (as well as Amsterdam and Los Angeles in the case of the GT Explore Studio).
This isn’t the first time Polyphony has gone on a hiring spree but it is interesting that expansion is continuing in various areas close to the promised release of Gran Turismo Sport later this year. Back in 2015, Polyphony made waves when it was revealed the team had poached previous Forza sound man Mike Caviezel for a Senior Audio Lead position.
Here is the link to the full list of job openings from PD’s website.
Thanks to AKps3 for the tip.

Confirmed: Pikes Peak Is a Gran Turismo Exclusive, But When Will We See It?

February 1st, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

The classic Escudo: a Gran Turismo staple. Image courtesy of SeaMorris.

The title says it all: after it was suggested yesterday that Pikes Peak had become a Polyphony Digital exclusive, confirmation has arrived, although not from PD itself.
The news once again comes by way of Codemasters and its recently-unveiled DiRT 4. Rightly curious about the Eurogamer article that first made mention of the GT exclusivity, Codemasters forum user zoliRX asked Chief Game Designer Paul Coleman about the veracity of the claim. Coleman confirms, saying “yes, we signed it for DiRT Rally before it went exclusive but we can’t use it anymore.”
As we covered yesterday, the 12.42-mile course has a long history with the Gran Turismo franchise. It first arrived in a shortened, modified form in GT2, and was long-rumoured for inclusion in GT5 (though it never came to pass).
In the real world, Kazunori Yamauchi was part of the proceedings at the 2016 event, even driving the new Acura NSX up the hill to signal the start of the race weekend. Gran Turismo became a primary sponsor the year before.
This leaves us asking the same question we did last summer, however: when will we see the track in the game? GTPlanet asked about Pikes Peak’s inclusion then, and Kazunori remained unsure of a timeline.
Naturally, GT Sport seems the prime candidate. The game is set to release this year, and given the typical lead-time between titles in the franchise, nabbing an exclusive license for whatever is meant to follow Sport—if indeed that’s the plan—comes off as a little pre-emptive.
As a point-to-point track, its inclusion in GT Sport would seemingly be at odds with the eSports-focused approach of the game. Yes, players could race one another’s ghosts, but it’d be a very different experience to the rally options we’ve seen thus far (which were fun, we should note).
This year’s Race To The Clouds takes place June 25. Hopefully, we hear more from Polyphony on this development before then…
Gran Turismo Sport is set to release on the PlayStation 4 later this year.

Pininfarina Teases Fittipaldi EF7 Vision GT Before Geneva International Motor Show

February 1st, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

The Geneva International Motor Show is one of the biggest of its kind. All manner of debuts typically happen there, and this year’s brace of new metal will include the latest addition to the “not even halfway done” Vision GT project.
This new model comes from legendary Italian coach-builder Pininfarina, but that isn’t the only big name involved in the project. The name is a hint: Emerson Fittipaldi has lent his initials and input to the new vehicle. According to Pininfarina, “his sole mission was to apply all his track knowledge on creating a new experience that will elevate the driving ability of all super car enthusiasts from around the world.”
Offering assistance on the technical side is HWA, the AMG spin-off company that deals with many Mercedes-Benz motorsports endeavors (including DTM). We wouldn’t be surprised to hear the rumble of an Affalterbach-built V8 emanating from the car’s tailpipes next month…
While we can’t gleam much from the first teaser, the large rear wing suggests this will be a very track-oriented beast, compared to earlier Vision GT vehicles like the first Mercedes-Benz model.
If it feels like it’s been a long time since the last Vision GT reveal, that’s because it has. Bugatti teased its VGT creation prior to the official announcement of GT Sport way back in autumn 2015, alongside the prototype-style Hyundai N 2025. Both cars were on display in Frankfurt that year.
Geneva didn’t get a Vision GT reveal in 2016, but it had a connection to the program nonetheless, as the production Chiron was unveiled, drawing heavily from the Polyphony Digital partnership creation.
Curiously, the press release only states that the car will be available in the Gran Turismo series, not specifying GT Sport. With the game set to release this year, it seems unlikely the Pininfarina EF7 won’t eventually be made available, even if not on day one.
The Geneva International Motor Show begins March 7. Stay tuned to GTPlanet for more news on the event as it gets closer.

Pininfarina Vision GT Project Continues The Slow Reveal

February 3rd, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

This month started with news of the Vision Gran Turismo program getting back into gear. Famed Italian design house Pininfarina will be working with F1 and CART champion Emerson Fittipaldi on the EF7 Vision Gran Turismo, the first addition to the project in over a year.
The original EF7 teaser was a peak over the new supercar’s shoulder. The official Fittipaldi Motors website has a countdown for the Geneva Motor Show, giving us a clearer idea of the car’s overall proportions, via a much less clear image. We can say, with 100% certainty, that the car is in fact yellow.
While it doesn’t tell us much more, the blurry image does hint at the EF7’s drivetrain. The passenger cell is quite far forward, essentially confirming the car’s midship layout. The official statement accompanying the car’s announcement said Fittipaldi would “apply all his track knowledge on creating a new experience”, so a racing-inspired mid-engine layout was expected.
German firm HWA is taking care of the engineering side of the project. HWA, being the motorsports spin-off of AMG, has plenty of history running three-pointed star vehicles in a variety of race series, notably DTM. However, with exception to Formula 3, the company currently deals with front-engine rear-drive cars. The question of what, if anything, the EF7’s mid-engine platform is based off will likely remain unanswered until the doors open in Geneva on March 7.
As for when players will be able to drive the car in Gran Turismo, that too has yet to be made clear. GT Sport is expected to release at some point in 2017, but strangely, the game wasn’t specifically named in the EF7 press release (only “the Gran Turismo series”). We’ll be keeping our eyes on the Motor Show for more news on the car.

Gran Turismo Sport is set to launch later this year, and will represent the biggest change to the series since its inception. Gone is the four-digit car roster, with a smaller, class-focused approach made up of “Super Premium” cars built for the PlayStation 4.
Our community has been vigilant in keeping a Master Car List up-to-date. Currently, we know roughly two-thirds of the planned 140 cars, spread across 28 manufacturers. With series stalwarts like Subaru and Chevrolet present and accounted for, we’ve compiled a small list of marques we think would add the most to the game’s more curated car list.
Staying true to what’s been revealed so far, the five manufacturers listed below all focus on modern offerings. The oldest car we know of so far in GT Sport is the 2009 Lotus Evora, so we’ve tried to stick with lineups made this decade. Sadly, that means no Lancia (a shadow of its former self) or Plymouth.
Oh, and why no Porsche? With the Electronic Arts exclusive deal a thing of the past, and seemingly every developer gaining access to the brand (iRacing‘s got one, Project CARS 2 has at least two, Assetto Corsa has over twenty), it’s a forgone conclusion that Porsche has most-wanted status here. We wanted to look at the less obvious candidates, starting with…
The original Vision Gran Turismo? We’d argue it was! Image courtesy of torque99.

Citroën
The quirky French brand deserves a spot on the roster for a few reasons. Chief amongst them is a modern rallying pedigree that’s second to none. Sure, the days of Loeb domination are behind us, but with WRC cars reportedly being limited to the official games from now on, the Polyphony-designed Gr.B class offers an opportunity for all sorts of madness consistent with the double-chevron marque. C4 Cactus Gr.B, anyone?
The other reason Citroën has our vote is that it arguably kicked off the Vision GT project, years before that title existed. The GTbyCitroën is almost nine years old already, yet to our eyes, it still looks new. The original concept had an out-there fuel cell system, but the later road and race cars used a rumbly Ford V8. A 2017 successor, utilizing Citroën’s modern design language, would fit in perfectly with the Gr.3 cars.

Fiat/Abarth
We’re going smaller for this next one. Whether Polyphony uses the more pedestrian Fiat offerings, or the scorpion-badged hot versions, we think GT Sport could definitely benefit from some compact Italian vehicles.
By our admittedly rough estimations, there are approximately two million variations of the little Fiat 500. Certainly, the 695 Biposto (a car featured in Forza Motorsport 6) would flesh out the N200 sub-class, being the riotous, 190 hp baby supercar that it is.
The ND Miata has been featured in GT Sport since the game’s initial announcement in 2015. With the fourth generation of Mazda’s little roadster already being included, why not include its sister car, the Abarth 124? Boasting a 164 hp turbo engine in place of the Miata’s naturally-aspirated unit, the Abarth would provide a contrasting experience. With the physics engine of GT Sport, it’d be a great way to explore the smaller differences between the two cars.
Of course, the entire Abarth lineup is also ripe for modifying. Imagine a 695 Biposto with comically-flared fenders dicing with Mustangs and 4Cs in Gr.3. Think of the 124 modified to do the same thing. Maybe rallying is more your thing: there’s already a dirty-sounding R-GT version of the 124 Abarth making its way across the globe. A Gr.B version would stack up nicely against the PD-designed rally cars we’ve already seen.

Pagani
On the surface, Pagani may seem like an odd suggestion. This is a boutique hypercar manufacturer: outside of competing with high-end road cars like the already-confirmed La Ferrari and Lamborghini Veneno, there’s not much room for Horacio’s creation.
But Pagani has a long history with the Gran Turismo series. Before other games had cottoned onto the lure of the brand, Polyphony included it all the way back in 2001’s Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. For many people, this would be their introduction to the manufacturer.
The Huayra BC (which has already appeared in both Project CARS and Forza Horizon 3) could keep the afore-mentioned hypercars honest in GT Sport‘s top-rung road car class. That’s all well and good, but the old Polyphony-designed Zonda LM Race Car could use a modern successor…

Cadillac
The Corvette may get all the glory, but Cadillac has some serious tin-top racing chops. A pair of ATS-V.Rs did extremely well in last year’s Pirelli World Challenge, and the GT3-spec vehicle would blend right in with the burgeoning Gr.3 class in GT Sport.
There’s another racer from the wreath-less crest brand too, one with a recent golden result to boot. The new Cadillac DPi-V.R won its first major outing at last month’s Rolex Daytona 24 Hour, immediately making it a more successful car than its predecessor, the Northstar LMP.
While the classes in GT Sport run roughly parallel to real-world series, Polyphony has shown — via the Bugatti Vision GT — that it plays fast and loose with the limitations for the top-shelf Gr.1 class. With a little performance balancing of its own, the DPi-V.R would bring a truly modern prototype to the game.

Bentley
So far, we’ve suggested a French manufacturer, two very different Italians, and an American company. That leaves us with the United Kingdom, and in terms of manufacturers not already featured in GT Sport, Bentley stands at the top of the pile.
The crew from Crewe has gotten back into sports car racing in a big way recently. The big Continental makes a surprisingly great-looking race car in GT3 guise, and a successful one too. The road-going lineup has the GT3 R, but even the car on which its based (the V8 S) would be a solid choice. It may weigh as much as a small house, but the V8 S still packs 520 hp, resulting in low-4s for 0-60, and a genuine 190+ mph top speed.
If the W12 is the engine for you, there’s always the new 700 hp Continental Supersport, the most powerful production Bentley ever.
What do you think of our picks? Have some of your own? Let us know!
Gran Turismo Sport is set to release later this year on the PlayStation 4.

6 Features From Other Racing Games We Want in Gran Turismo Sport

February 21st, 2017 by Ali Samy

2017 is upon us, and we’ve already bet on it being a bumper crop for racing games. This should be special for anyone with an interest in Sony’s flagship racer, as we should finally have the first entry of Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo series on the PlayStation 4.
While Polyphony has been taking its time, the racing genre on consoles has been refreshingly competitive, with new entries and IPs aiming to capture the heart of the average console sim player. Now, with Gran Turismo Sport racing onto the PS4 this year, we wondered what lessons Polyphony could learn from what its competition has served up so far.

#1: Reliable Net Code, From Day One
One of the main reasons Evolution’s Driveclub got off to a rocky start was that its net code, which manages the game’s online play, was not reliable. While Driveclub was marketed as a connected experience, the unreliability rendered a lot of the game’s features useless, leaving a bad taste in the mouths for those who bought it early on.
With Gran Turismo Sport‘s focus on online racing, this is something that simply must be nailed from the start. An online stress test would be useful, which makes the scrapped beta plans a potential cause for concern.
On the plus side, it certainly seems like Kazunori and company have learned not just from the shaky Driveclub experience, but also GT6‘s sometimes-unreliable online, as GT Sport is set to feature dedicated servers for important races.
Driveclub’s free Japan circuit was a great addition

#2: Extensive Post-Launch Support
We know it is important for GT Sport to avoid Driveclub‘s online woes, but Polyphony would do well to imitate Evolution’s exceptional post-launch support for their game. With a season pass that included both cars and events (and was extended), alongside an abundance of free new features, the game ended as a completely different beast from those dark early times.
There was even the inclusion of Driveclub Bikes, which continued to prolong the title’s life, and helped remove the bad image that plagued the title from launch.
With Kazunori Yamauchi already stating plans for post launch support, Driveclub‘s season pass and post-launch updates should be the benchmark for Polyphony to chase. How that sort of system jives with a final car tally that could approach 500 vehicles is anybody’s guess, however.
Project CARS’s AI really adds to the game’s fun factor.

#3: Artificial Intelligence (That’s Actually Intelligent)
Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS was one of the big releases for the sim racing console community back in 2015 (and fans will be delighted to know a sequel just got announced), with a goal of achieving a no-holds-barred hardcore sim racer. Whether the game achieved that is up for debate, but it sold reasonably well, and it nailed a lot of features, notably the competitive AI with very large grids and multi-class racing.
Gran Turismo’s AI, by contrast, has left a lot to be desired over past releases. Project CARS‘ impressive implementation allows players to set the AI with a numerically-assigned difficulty, offering a decent challenge to even the fastest of players.
These bots could make drivers feel as if they were driving against actual racers—defending and being aggressive—rather than the passive AI Gran Turismo 6 exhibits. We’ve seen hints of progress in recent footage, but we would still like to see the AI put up more of a fight (here is a recent example from Project CARS 2).
Gt Sport’s Campaign Mode Overlay

#4: Deeper Career Structure
Previous Gran Turismo career modes employed a tried-and-tested formula: start with an under-powered average car, win races, then upgrade and purchase new cars until you fill up your dream garage.
Gran Turismo Sport‘s career appears to change the formula. Polyphony could have a look at Project CARS‘s career structure: choose a discipline — open wheel racing, for example — and work your way up the ladder, impressing sponsors and fans along the way.
From what we know so far, Gran Turismo Sport‘s offline mode seems to be split into three categories: “Arcade Mode”, “Campaign Mode” and “Sport Mode”. Arcade Mode is most likely the typical offline mode we’ve seen in past games. We do hope, however, that it gets some much-needed upgrades, like the ability to participate in a full race weekend, with practice and qualifying, with the option to set field size and difficulty to the player’s liking.
Campaign Mode appears to be similar to the License Tests beloved by many in previous GT games, teaching players the basics of driving and racing before letting them loose online in Sport Mode. Sport Mode is arguably the most important component — it’s right there in the game’s name, after all — with online races and events alongside the two FIA-sanctioned Gran Turismo championships: The Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup.
We’d like to see online lobbies have similar options to Project CARS, giving the players the tools to create fully customizable race weekends.
Dirt Rally’s excellent sound engine adds to the immersion.

#5: Better Sound Effects
You knew this was coming. One of the most prominent weak points of the GT series has been the disappointing sound effects. Codemasters resumed its successful DiRT series with DiRT Rally (read our review here), featuring not only great physics, but an incredible sound engine that captures the raw noise of these powerful machines.
GT6 had a sophisticated sound engine, with distance echoes and the Doppler effect simulated, but the individual samples for many of the engines left a lot to be desired. Lately, we’ve seen signs that GT Sport has taken a big step in the right direction.
We hope Polyphony gets inspiration from Dirt Rally as well as the recently announced DiRT 4, and strive for simulating more than just the car engine sounds. DiRT Rally‘s rather impressive audio engine simulates the pops and crackles coming from the exhaust, the noise of pebbles hitting the underside, drivetrain noises, and more, all coming together to deliver a wonderful sense of immersion.

#6: More Car Customization
Microsoft’s Forza series has been getting stronger and stronger this generation, and the latest entry is Playground’s Forza Horizon 3. One of Forza Horizon 3‘s best features is the plethora of customization options on offer.
Forza has always had the edge over the GT series in this area, boasting a useful and robust Livery Editor, allowing players to express their talents while creating some fantastic liveries. Not only that, Forza’s Auction house gives players the ability to sell and purchase the creations of others.
GT Sport set to feature a livery editor, a series first.

Polyphony seems to have taken notice, as Gran Turismo Sport is set to be the first Gran Turismo game to feature an extensive Livery Editor. Kazunori stated that we can create our own decals — hopefully with proper tools like mirroring, layer overlays, and font control — which will allow us enough freedom to create truly unique liveries.
Competition Breeds Excellence
As racing enthusiasts, we have been blessed during this console generation, and it’s great to see strong competition in the racing genre. Hopefully sooner, rather than later, we will be enjoying Polyphony’s latest entry to see how it stacks up to its contemporaries.

Aston Martin AM-RB 001 Will be Powered by Cosworth, Makes Debut in Canada

February 23rd, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

Last summer, Aston Martin announced a joint effort with Red Bull’s F1 team — led by Adrian Newey of Gran Turismo’s X-car fame — to bring a hypercar to market before the end of the decade. Now, more details have been revealed about the car that could set new records for production vehicles.
The AM-RB 001 may still be lacking its final production name, but Aston Martin has let us know what will be the heart of the car: a 6.5L naturally-aspirated V12 from Cosworth. Smaller than the twelve-pot motors found in the One-77 and Vulcan, the engine is nonetheless expected to be massively powerful, as Aston has targeted the golden 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
Cosworth isn’t the only big name set to help make the project a reality. The carbon fiber tub will be supplied by Multimatic, the Canadian company that helped develop the One-77 (and is currently crafting the new 2017 GT for Ford).
That big V12 will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission by Ricardo, and bolstered by a hybrid battery system supplied by Rimac (known for its monstrous all-electric Concept One hypercar). Braking will be handled jointly by Alcon and Surface Transforms, who will be providing the calipers and brake discs, respectively.
Newey had this to say on the all-star cast that will collaborate on the project, which will result in no more than 150 cars (25 of which will be track-only models):
“Much like Formula One, designing, engineering and building a car like the AM-RB 001 is a massive team effort. To achieve great things you need to surround yourself with the best people. Experience, creativity, energy, diligence and perfectionism are absolute must-have qualities in every area of the project. Having great technical partners such as those working with us is both reassuring and motivating. Together we aim to produce an innovative piece of engineering art.”
The car recently made its first North American appearance — as well as its global auto show debut — at the 2017 Canadian International Auto Show. Take a look below: we’ve got quite a wait before customer deliveries begin in early 2019.

GT4 Photo Travel Location Returns In Gran Turismo Sport

February 26th, 2017 by Kyle Patrick

Integrated Systems Europe. While it isn’t up there with E3 in the average gamer’s vocabulary, the ISE show in Amsterdam is a hotbed of cutting edge display tech. Gran Turismo Sport was part of Sony’s showcase, and a small detail from the franchise’s earlier years was spotted by our eagle-eyed community.
In the video above, you’ll find Sony’s massive CLEDIS display system, boasting an 8K x 2K resolution. Skip ahead to the 2:13 mark, and if you’re familiar with Gran Turismo 4, you should find a familiar location.
Marunouchi — more specifically, the Tokyo International Forum — was one of several Japanese locations in the PS2 title, which also marked the first instance of Gran Turismo’s Photomode. In the case of GT Sport, the location is likely one of the 1000-plus Scapes that Polyphony has stated are a part of the game.
We’ve corrected the perspective from the video to compare to an original GT4 image:

While not the biggest of news bombshells, it’s nonetheless a pleasing bonus for digital photographers. The GT4 Photo Travel locations arguably offered more variety than either of the PS3-era games that came later, so we wonder what other classics are hidden amongst the hundreds of Scapes in GT Sport.
As for more substantial updates on the game, GT Sport will be present at the Game Developers Conference next week, while a new Pininfarina Vision Gran Turismo is set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show only days later. Hopefully one of those events sheds more light on the title’s recent developments.
Thanks to okami11408 for first pointing out the Marunouchi connection!
Gran Turismo Sport is scheduled to launch later this year on PlayStation 4.

Pininfarina Continues to Tease Fittipaldi EF7; Full Reveal Next Week

March 1st, 2017 by Michael Leary

February began with the taunting reveal of the latest addition to the “not even halfway done” Vision GT Project. The Fittipaldi EF7 is headed by the legendary Italian coach-builder Pininfarina, and bears the initials of the two-time F1 and Indy 500 Driver’s Champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Set to be revealed in earnest next week, March 7 at the Geneva International Motor Show, some new information has emerged before its big day.
Once again brought to our attention by Tassie_tiger, the new information reveals very little. As seen in the above image, a new quarter view reveals more of the vehicle’s rear end and spoiler, and its namesake branded accordingly. More details have been added to the manufacturer’s website as well — it’s here that things become a little more interesting.
The newest VGT car is expected to make an appearance in the yet-to-be-released Gran Turismo Sport, and while it isn’t mentioned outright, the latest addition on the website appears to echo that gesture:
Fittipaldi and Polyphony Digital have teamed up to ensure supercar and video game enthusiasts worldwide can push the limits with a virtual version of the EF7 Vision Gran Turismo in the Gran Turismo racing series.
Further, Gran Turismo and the FIA, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, have created the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships, a new platform for motorsports. Fittipaldi said: “eSports is a sure future, and partnering with the Gran Turismo team to replicate the feeling of driving the EF7 Vision Grand Turismo was eye opening.”
As mentioned previously, the EF7 will be powered by a normally-aspirated V8 engine sending over 600 horsepower to its driven wheels, and will weigh around 1,000 kg. A brief glimpse of the front of the EF7 also revealed a radical design language, not unbecoming of Pininfarina. Only six days remain until the Geneva Motor Show is underway.
