Tottenham's Younes Kaboul out for 'four months' after surgery

Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul is facing four months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his injured knee, the France international has announced on his Twitter account.

Kaboul featured in the season-opening defeat by Newcastle, but missed last weekend's 1-1 draw against West Brom.
"Morning all, surgery done with success," Kaboul said on Twitter.
He then added shortly after: "Sorry I forgot to mention how long [I will be out for]... should be 4 months."

ottenham striker Jermain Defoe has ended speculation over his future by signing a new deal at White Hart Lane.

Defoe has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer after finding his starts limited last season.

The 29-year-old had raised concerns over his future if he is not playing regularly, but Andre Villas-Boas has reassured him that he is an important part of his plans.

The former West Ham and Portsmouth forward is thought to have signed a new three-year deal to keep him at Spurs.

Defoe announced the news of his new contract on Twitter, saying: "Fantastic week signed my new contract at spurs & meeting up with England on Monday for 2 important games #goalsgoalsgoals."

"We have had interest from Hamburg, but an offer of that dimension is not something the player deserves," Villas-Boas told a press conference.

"Tottenham should be respected as a club. (The transfer) doesn't seem to be happening."

Tottenham's customary late foray into the transfer market looks set to swing into action before Friday night's 11pm deadline, with Villas-Boas hoping to land Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho and France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

It appears there will be no last-minute dash for a striker, however, after Jermain Defoe committed his future to the club on Thursday by signing a new three-year contract.

Spurs have been strongly linked with Leandro Damiao and Loic Remy, and a renewed attempt for Shakhtar Donetsk's Willian, who can operate in midfield or attack, is possible, but once more Villas-Boas fears the club could be priced out of a deal for the player.

"We had initial contact with Shakhtar, (who) again (are) a club in a position with wealthy owners, (and are) not easy to deal with," Villas-Boas added.

"We can't say that it's over but we have approached the club and at the moment it's a deal that doesn't seem to be happening."

Villas-Boas confirmed his interest in signing Lyon shot-stopper Lloris, with whom the Londoners have been in contact regularly for the last week or so.

"We are very comfortable with our goalkeepers, (but) we can take into account that there is a future that we have to prepare for," said the Spurs boss, whose current first choice, Brad Friedel, is 41.

"In that sense we have studied possibilities in that position as well and throughout the goalkeepers available, Hugo is one of the best."

"He has agreed personal terms with Tottenham, he remains under that impression, but since we have had Hugo Lloris on the telephone for a long time overnight and this morning and he's completely undecided about what happens next.

"We've been negotiating all night. The first negotiation was at the start of the window, about a month-and-a-half ago, through an intermediary who was a French lawyer, who lives in Lyon.

"And then nothing for about a month-and-a-half. The negotiation then picked up again about a week ago."

The Mexico international made 33 appearances, scoring three times following his transfer from Barcelona in the summer of 2008 and also had loan spells with Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander.
