Spurs' King dreading new long-term lay-off

Ledley King is facing new doubts over his Tottenham future, after being hit by another injury.

The England defender has had a scan on the groin-muscle damage he suffered during the weekend win at Newcastle. He will get the results on Tuesday, before seeing a specialist.

King, 31, suffered a similar injury last season which kept him out for SIX MONTHS, so he is desperately hoping for better news on his latest blow.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has challenged King to prove he is worth a contract next season by playing at least 20 games and a long lay-off could seriously damage his chances.


King has only managed five games so far but admitted recently this season will be make-or-break for a career so cruelly ravaged by injury.

England international King said: “It is the first time I have been in a situation like this, where my contract is up at the end of the campaign, so it is a big season.”

Seydou Doumbia - Pavlyuchenko swap deal 'planned by Spurs'
Seydou Doumbia has emerged as Spurs' top target for the January transfer window and Harry Redknapp is ready to use Roman Pavlyuchenko to land him.

Tottenham boss Redknapp is keen to freshen up his forward options and has set his sights on CSKA Moscow star Doumbia.

The Ivory Coast international is being watched by a number of clubs from Europe's biggest leagues, but Spurs officials believe they have an advantage over their rivals.

In a bid to land the 23-year-old, they will put together a cash-plus-player package involving Pavlyuchenko, reports the People.

Spurs are hoping that offering a striker who is a regular starter for Russia will convince CSKA Moscow to part with a player they value at £30million.

Pavlyuchenko has not started a Premier League game so far this season and is known to be unhappy about his lack of opportunities.

Doumbia was top scorer in the Swiss league in both of his seasons with Young Boys Berne, before moving to Russia in 2010.

He has continued to be prolific since arriving in Moscow and has netted 16 league and two Champions League goals this term.

CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia has expressed a desire to play in England after being linked with a move to Tottenham.

The Ivorian forward is a prolific force in the Russian top flight and is keen on a move to the Premier League and London.

Doumbia, 23, is reportedly a priority target for Spurs and is also thought to be under consideration by Manchester City.

He told Skysports.com: "I am very interested in playing in the English league. Harry Redknapp is a coach African players love, so who knows?

"It is only paper talk at the moment. I want to make a name for myself in the Russian league and in the Champions League as well, the rest will come once I am playing very well.

"My dream is to play in the Premier League, everyone knows that."
