The Last Guardian is 'alive and kicking' - Yoshida

"There are lots of people working on it," SCE boss tells CVG

Despite its E3 no-show - marking the continued absence of one of this generation's most delayed games - Yoshida insists the title is still in active development in Japan. "It's alive and kicking in terms of development," Yoshida told CVG in an interview today, clarifying a recent statement from SCEA boss Jack Tretton who said the game was on a "hiatus".
"If you visit Japan Studio there are lots of people working on it," Yoshida asserted.
"But as [designer Fumito Ueda] shared with people a couple of months ago, we really want to be confident next time when we introduce The Last Guardian to the public, so we are waiting for that time to come," he added, signaling Sony's hesitance to disappoint fans with further missed release windows.
The Last Guardian was first announced at E3 2009 for the PS3, but little has been seen of the project since.
Although Sony stated plans to release the game in "holiday 2011", Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda later said the it had been delayed beyond 2011 "to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill first Party Studio's obligations".
"Game development is not easy at all," added Yoshida. "The Last Guardian looks to be an extreme case but actually I don't think that's the case. What's extreme is the vision of Ueda-San and the team, which is extremely interesting for all of us including myself, consumers and media people. So that kind of keeps us going, even when they hit really difficult technical issues. If it were another project we might have just finished in the middle.
"I really appreciate that people are still anticipating the game. That's really positive," he concluded.
