TGS 2006: Ni-Oh Trailer Impressions
Koei's PS3 title is shown in Tokyo, but we're still left wondering exactly what it's like.

September 22, 2006 - At Koei's booth at this year's Tokyo Game Show, the publisher/developer snuck in a new trailer for its forthcoming and somewhat mysterious PlayStation 3 title, Ni-Oh. Not seen in some time, the title was one of the first games shown via high-res screenshots for the system, and following the beautiful media gamers have been wondering what the game is all about.
The trailer only sort of clues us in. It opens up in black and white visuals, maybe slightly sepia in tonality. A soldier with ornate head gear lops at soldiers left and right, cutting them down like trees. Soon thereafter, an entire army is seen charging inward as color begins saturating the video. A series of bulls on fire then charge at the rampaging army and runs them down with ease.
The two armies are then seen battling it out for a short bit until the camera pans up on high. Over the entire crowd, a shadow of an armed soldier covers them in blackness. After the shadow waves his sword around for a few seconds, the mysterious cloak then changes into the form of a dragon and the beast flies in from the side of the screen and directly into view.
That's where the trailer and our glimpse at what the game is all about ends. At this point, we don't know much more, but being that this is the same company that brings us Dynasty Warriors year after year, we can probably guess what's in store for us.
