Virtual On Set for Xbox 360
Now where's our Twin Sticks?


February 25, 2009 - Sega is reviving Virtual On for the new age via Xbox Live Arcade. Following a few leaks earlier in the week, this week's Famitsu came through with a first report on Virtual On Oratorio Tangram Ver.5.66.

Set for Japanese release in April at 1,200 MS Points, this version of the Oratorio Tangram arcade machine will feature a number of updates.

Players can look forward to three additional "Virtualoid" mechs, bringing the total up to 15. Famitsu mentions just one of the new mechs, "Stein Vok."

Xbox Live support is also on the way. Players will be able to take part in online matches making use of Virtualoids painted in custom color schemes. Win an online match, and you'll find yourself with a special rank. The game will also allow players to upload and download replay data.

The game has been fully adapted to Xbox 360 spec. The graphics are now in HD, with wide screen support presumably providing a better view of the action. The controls have been fine tuned for the 360 controller.

We're going to speculate that Sega won't release a Twin Sticks controller option for this game. Still, we'll be happy with just getting our hands on Virtual On again, especially since the Famitsu report suggests an international release.
