Zacc and Mancini rumours grow
by Peter ORourke
Speculation is rife in Italy that Roberto Mancini
is set to be named as the new coach of Internazionale. :cwm9:
Reports suggest that the Lazio coach will take over from
Alberto Zaccheroni as early as next week after a board meeting at Inter.
Inter owner Massimo Moratti has always dismissed the reports
linking the club with Mancini insisting Zaccheroni will stay in charge.
But it appears now that the club have decided to part company with
Zaccheroni and install long-term target Mancini at the Giuseppe Meazza.
The rumours were intensified on Friday when Zaccheroni was drafted into
an impromptu meeting with the club's board with reports claiming it was
inform Zaccheroni of their decision to let him go.
Inter are thought to have made the decision to sack Zaccheroni :cwm9:bb
after deciding to keep Christian Vieri despite interest from Juventus.
Vieri failed to see eye-to-eye with Zaccheroni last season with both men
having several bust-ups and if he is too stay it seems that Zaccheroni
will have to go.
The Italian international, who is away preparing for Euro 2004,
refused to comment on the speculation regarding Mancini and
insists it would not make any difference to him.
"I cannot say anything until people have actually put pen to paper,
but if Mancini does arrive then I'll be very happy for him," said Vieri.
"Mancini is a friend of mine, but taking over at Inter wouldn't change my life,
as at the age of 31 who is on the bench matters little."
It is believed that President Giacinto Facchetti could quit the club in protest
to their decision to axe Zaccheroni.
