June 2, 2009 - Fat Princess will be making a surprise appearance on PlayStation Portable thanks to an all-new version of the game (which arrives on PS3 this summer) for portable gamers. IGN has not yet had a chance to go hands-on with the game (which is said to be playable at this year's E3 conference, but we do have some details about the game from Sony about the portable edition.
"Sound the trumpets: Fat Princess brings its comical medieval fun to PSP with a host of added features. Franticly-paced and strategic, Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake pits two hordes of players against each other in comic medieval battle royale on PSP. The player's goal is to rescue a beloved princess from the enemy castle. There is a catch, though; the adversary has been feeding her magical cake to make her heavier to carry. Therefore, it will take much of the army working together to carry her across the battlefield."
That's the story on the Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake, which uses all of the same basic team-strategy-action gameplay of the PS3 game in small-scale battles over the big gal. For the PSP version, developer Supervillian Studio is offering action for up to eight players in either local or online combat. Gamers can expect to find the same general character classes and bloody combat in the PSP game, but this version (which may or may not be released on UMD as well as digitally -- this was not clear in the info sheet) features additional multiplayer game modes (including Grim Ripper, Dilapidated, Demolition and Jailbreak) as well as an extended single-player mode. The game will also be balanced for PSP's smaller multiplayer offering.
No release date has been set for the PSP version of Fat Princess. Look for hands-on impressions of the game as soon as we've got a chance.
